Ghost of Yōtei has reached its first anniversary with the release of the Complete Edition on PlayStation 5. The new package combines the original campaign with Ghost of Yōtei Legends and two major additions: the narrative expansion Echoes of Sekigahara and the combat-focused Most Wanted mode.
PlayStation is marking the launch with a new interview featuring Erika Ishii, the actor behind protagonist Atsu, who discussed returning to the character and exploring parts of her past that were only hinted at in the original story.
Echoes of Sekigahara Takes Atsu Back to Her Past
Echoes of Sekigahara is the major narrative addition included with the Complete Edition.
The expansion moves between the present day and flashbacks to Atsu’s time on the Japanese mainland. Rather than beginning another completely separate revenge story, Sucker Punch uses the expansion to explore events and relationships that helped shape Atsu before the main campaign.
A new character named Nagato plays an important role in that story. He has history with Atsu, giving the expansion a more personal focus than a straightforward new enemy campaign.
The Complete Edition includes:
- The full Ghost of Yōtei campaign
- Ghost of Yōtei Legends multiplayer
- Echoes of Sekigahara story expansion
- Most Wanted roguelike combat mode
Echoes of Sekigahara also adds new areas, enemies and combat opportunities while retaining the core weapon system from the main game.
Erika Ishii Returns as Atsu
PlayStation’s anniversary interview focuses heavily on Erika Ishii’s relationship with the character.
Ishii returns as Atsu for the new story material, giving Sucker Punch an opportunity to explore a different side of the protagonist.
The expansion looks back at Atsu’s earlier life while also continuing her journey after the events players already experienced.
Echoes of Sekigahara is designed to add context to Atsu’s past rather than replace the story told in the original campaign.
That approach allows the Complete Edition to work both as an entry point for new players and as an expansion for those who have already completed the game.
Most Wanted Turns Combat Into a Roguelike
The second major addition takes a very different approach.
Most Wanted removes much of the traditional open-world structure and instead focuses on repeatable combat runs built around bounties, upgrades and increasingly difficult encounters.
Players can unlock different hunters with their own abilities and combat styles.
Jin Sakai also returns as an unlockable character, bringing his familiar stance-based fighting system from Ghost of Tsushima into Ghost of Yōtei.
| Content | Main focus |
|---|---|
| Main campaign | Atsu’s original story |
| Echoes of Sekigahara | New narrative expansion |
| Most Wanted | Roguelike combat runs |
| Legends | Online multiplayer |
| Beauty of Yōtei | Exploration and Photo Mode |
Most Wanted therefore serves as the more replayable side of the Complete Edition, while Echoes of Sekigahara provides the new story content.
Jin Sakai Returns as a Playable Hunter
Jin’s inclusion is one of the more notable connections between Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yōtei.
He becomes available as one of the hunters in Most Wanted and uses his established combat philosophy rather than simply copying Atsu’s weapon system.
His stance-based approach creates a different way of dealing with enemy types and makes his inclusion more than a cosmetic reference to the previous game.
The new mode includes several gameplay elements:
- Multiple playable hunters with different abilities
- Increasingly difficult bounty encounters
- Perks that change between runs
- New opportunities to experiment with combat builds
This gives players another reason to return after completing the narrative content.
Free Update Also Adds New Features
Not every anniversary feature is locked behind the Complete Edition.
Patch 2.0 introduces several free additions for existing Ghost of Yōtei owners.
Beauty of Yōtei allows players to explore environments in a more relaxed format and use them as a showcase for Photo Mode. New Watanabe Mode tracks are also available throughout the game.
Sucker Punch has additionally added an option that separates armor appearance from armor statistics, allowing players to keep their preferred visual design while using the attributes of another set.
A new high-contrast accessibility option is also part of the free update.
Complete Edition Offers the Full Package
For newcomers, the Complete Edition now represents the most comprehensive version of Ghost of Yōtei available on PS5.
It combines the original game, multiplayer content and the two major new additions in one package.
Existing owners can instead access the new material through the Complete Edition Upgrade, avoiding the need to purchase the entire game again.
The launch also arrives exactly one year after Ghost of Yōtei first released, making the expansion part of a wider anniversary push from Sucker Punch and Sony.
Assessment
Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition expands the game in two very different directions.
Echoes of Sekigahara gives players more story and more insight into Atsu, while Most Wanted focuses almost entirely on the combat system and replayability.
That combination gives the release broader appeal than a conventional story DLC alone.
The return of Jin Sakai also creates a direct gameplay connection to Ghost of Tsushima without shifting the main narrative away from Atsu.
For existing players, the value of the Complete Edition will largely depend on interest in the new expansion and roguelike mode. For newcomers, it now provides the clearest way to experience the entire Ghost of Yōtei package on PS5.
