Called Stygian Onslaught, this permanent event requires players to battle the most challenging bosses for highly valuable rewards. It’s the game’s toughest mode yet, with multiple difficulties and three powerful enemies. Here’s everything you need to know about the Genshin Impact Stygian Onslaught—from unlocking the mode to earning top-tier rewards.

Event Overview and Requirements

Genshin Impact Stygian Onslaught Event Guide (2)

Stygian Onslaught is Genshin Impact’s latest endgame combat mode. Similar to Spiral Abyss and Imaginarium Theater, this domain-style event challenges players to defeat three boss enemies across six increasing difficulty levels. However, it stands out with features like co-op support (for lower levels), unique enemy mechanics, and powerful limited-time rewards.

How to Unlock the Event?

To unlock Genshin Impact Stygian Onslaught, you must:

  • Be at Adventure Rank 20 or higher.
  • Complete Archon Quest Prologue: Act III.
  • For artifact farming and higher rewards, reach Adventure Rank 45+.

After completing the “Tumult Subduer” quest from the Events tab, the domain in Liyue becomes accessible.

Difficulty Levels Explained

Genshin Impact Stygian Onslaught Event Guide (3)

The mode features six tiers which feature the same three bosses. However, their level gets higher and higher. The upper tiers also get special effects that make it harder for players.

  1. Normal (I) – Enemy level 40
  2. Advancing (II) – Level 70
  3. Hard (III) – Level 90
  4. Menacing (IV) – Level 100
  5. Fearless (V) – Level 105 (Solo-only)
  6. Dire (VI) – Level 110 (Solo-only, leaderboard-enabled)

While the enemy levels look intimidating already, there’s a bit of solace in the game mechanics. Co-op is allowed for Normal to Menclacing tiers, making it easier for casual players to enjoy. From Normal to Hard, you can use the Co-op Matchmaking feature, while for Menacing, you have to be in Co-Op mode in your world first.

However, Fearless and Dire are locked to solo mode as they offer the most valuable rewards. Players can also access Exalted Ones—server-wide leaderboard characters that provide buffs if you own them.

Clearing Hard (III) grants all Primogem rewards, while Menacing and Fearless yield Dust of Enlightenment. Dire difficulty unlocks exclusive weapon skins.

Key Features and Strategy Tips

You’ll need three different teams for each run—one per boss. From Menacing (IV) onward, characters cannot be reused, so prepare at least 12 well-built characters.

Boss Weaknesses

  • Hydro Tulpa: Weak to Pyro
  • Lava Dragon Statue: Use Pyro and Dendro
  • Secret Source Automaton: Best tackled with Cryo teams

Avoid using elements to which bosses are immune or resistant, especially in Fearless and Dire levels, where mistakes can lead to instant character knockouts.

Disturbance Outbreak Window

From June 25 to July 5, players can farm Artifacts in Stygian Onslaught by spending Resin. This is the best time to farm gear using the Dire Prestige mechanic—1 Resin equals 1 Prestige point. Earn bonus 5-star Artifacts and even an extra Dust of Enlightenment by spending 1,200 Prestige.

  • Hero’s Wit: 5 per level
  • Dust of Enlightenment: From Menacing and Fearless

Weapon Skins:

  • 4-Star: Complete Dire
  • 5-Star (glow variant): Clear Dire in under 180 seconds
  • Note: The weapon skins are not permanent and will also expire when the current Stygian Onslaught cycle refreshes.

Conclusion

Genshin Impact Stygian Onslaught Event Guide (6)

The Genshin Impact Stygian Onslaught endgame mode may indeed give players a new headache. Its challenging combat, however, is justified by the value of the rewards locked behind each increasingly difficult tier. If you’ve built your best teams or have characters ready for team-ups, then don’t hesitate to tackle this gamemode! If you cannot take the challenge yet, then you can make yourself stronger instead.

Jump into Liyue, rally your teams, and conquer the Genshin Impact Stygian Onslaught before the patch ends!
