Genshin Impact: Leaks Reveal Upcoming Map Expansions

fragster Jennifer Davis 27. December 2024

Genshin Impact has always delivered with its rich lore and storylines. Often, the biggest lore drops are those that accompany a new area or expansion.

Fortunately, it seems fans are getting treated to brand new areas that unlock new stories as well in 2025. Genshin Impact map expansion leaks for 5.4 and 6.x have revealed updates that will reshape Teyvat in ways players haven’t seen before.

First Wave of New Areas

Three exciting zones will arrive in Version 5.4. These are some locations already planned to be added on the map but somehow didn’t see much development. In the expansion, they finally can make it to Teyvat’s world map.

  • Mont Esus
  • Dornman Port
  • Blackcliff Forge

Players will also explore new territory in the Collective of Plenty region, expanding the game’s already vast world.

While many players expected to visit Snezhnaya next, plans have shifted in an unexpected direction. Instead of the usual sequence of one major nation after another, Travelers will embark on a journey to a different place first.

The autonomous province of Nod-Krai will open its gates in Version 6.0, launching on September 10, 2025. Snezhnaya itself, however, will make players wait until Version 7.0, likely appearing in 2026.

A Different Approach to World Building

Version 6.x marks a departure from the usual pattern of focusing on one new region. Instead, developers will add fresh areas to all existing regions of Teyvat.

The Monstadt expansion of Dornman port in particular has already been something players have long been clamoring for. As the first nation visited by the Traveler, the City of Freedom has been receiving less attention than other Teyvat nations. It’s about time it gets revisited and its equally deep lore is explored once again.

This might be a step in the right direction, as heading straight to the Tsaritsa and Snezhnaya would likely feel rushed and premature. This approach allows the game to tie up loose story ends and flesh out established territories before moving toward the game’s eventual climax.

New Characters and Story Developments

In addition to Genshin Impact map expansion leaks, the game’s official pages also teased seven new characters to join the adventure in the next six months. This includes the mysterious Skirk, who we have only met in the Fontaine quest.

Their arrival comes at about the same time that the Tsaritsa will have gathered all seven Gnoses in Version 5.3. This setup hints at major conflicts brewing, possibly involving the Abyss or even Celestia.

Across these updates, several storylines are also bound to finally be resolved:

  • Varka’s expedition and eventual return
  • Dottore’s plans for Irminsul
  • The sleeping dragon Durin’s awakening
  • The Tsaritsa’s ultimate goals

Looking to the Future

No tale gets left untold. With the speculated Genshin Impact map expansion leaks, developers are showing that they want to bring attention to every story in Teyvat’s lore. As the game has continuously shown us wonderful narratives, we can expect that those in the new areas would be no less moving.

There’s no doubt that players will have to wait longer for Snezhnaya and the major stories connected to it. However, these updates to resolve just about everything leading to our grand journey to the Cryo Nation will make our arrival more satisfying and complete.

Conclusion

The Genshin Impact map expansion leaks will add more gameplay features and mechanics, events, and rewards on top of the world building. More importantly, of course, it will deepen the connections between locations and lore.

HoYoverse is taking its time to develop the story before heading to the finale. For that, this elaborate journey to Snezhnaya might just be worth all of it.
