Gen.G have finished first in the 2026 LCK regular season, extending their run at the top of Korea’s League of Legends competition to three consecutive years. The team closed the season with a 19-7 record, narrowly beating Hanwha Life Esports to the top seed through the head-to-head tiebreaker.
HLE also finished 19-7 after defeating T1 2-0 in the final regular-season match. T1 and Dplus KIA ended at 17-9 and will enter the playoffs in third and fourth place respectively, while KT Rolster must navigate the Play-In.
Gen.G survive a dramatic final week
Gen.G entered the final week of Round 4 with an 18-6 record and control of the Legend Group.
Their first opportunity to strengthen that position came against KT Rolster on August 19. Gen.G won the series 2-1, securing their 19th match victory and guaranteeing themselves a direct place in Playoffs Round 2.
Their final regular-season match against Dplus KIA was considerably more difficult.
Gen.G took the opening game but eventually lost the series 1-2. Winning that single map was still enough to protect their position at the top, although Hanwha Life continued to apply pressure through the final day.

Head-to-head record separates Gen.G and HLE
Hanwha Life produced a perfect final week to close the gap.
HLE first defeated Dplus KIA 2-0 before sweeping T1 by the same score in the final match of the regular season. That run gave them a 19-7 record and a +22 map differential, exactly matching Gen.G.
The tiebreaker therefore came down to their direct meetings.
Gen.G finished first because they held a 3-1 regular-season head-to-head record against Hanwha Life Esports.
Gen.G also won both of their most recent meetings with HLE during Rounds 3 and 4, giving them the decisive advantage despite finishing level across the broader standings.

T1 miss out on second place
T1 entered the final match of the regular season still competing with HLE for the second seed.
A victory would have strengthened their position significantly, but Hanwha Life controlled the series and won 2-0. The defeat left T1 with a 17-9 record and confirmed third place.
Dplus KIA also finished 17-9 after defeating Gen.G in their final match. T1 remained ahead because of their superior map differential.
The difference between second and third is significant because HLE can skip the opening playoff round entirely. T1 and Dplus KIA will instead begin in Round 1, adding an extra elimination series to their postseason route.

KT’s position is particularly disappointing after a difficult end to the season. Six consecutive defeats dropped the team to fifth in the Legend Group and into the Play-In bracket.
Gen.G extend their domestic consistency
Finishing first again continues an exceptional run of regular-season performances from Gen.G.
In 2024, when the LCK still used separate Spring and Summer splits, Gen.G topped both regular seasons with 17-1 records. The league then moved to a single-season format in 2025, where Gen.G produced a dominant 29-1 campaign.
Their 2026 record is less overwhelming, but the result is the same: another first-place finish.
The consistency gives Gen.G an important advantage heading into the postseason. Starting in Round 2 reduces the number of series required to reach the later stages and provides additional preparation time while other contenders play elimination matches.
LCK postseason begins with Play-In
The postseason begins with the Play-In from August 26 through August 28.
KT Rolster will be joined by the three qualifying teams from the Rise Group, with only two of the four participants advancing into the main playoff bracket.
Once the Play-In concludes, the playoffs will determine which teams can convert strong regular-season performances into an LCK title and improve their position in the international qualification race.
Assessment
Gen.G’s latest first-place finish reinforces their status as the LCK’s most consistent regular-season team of recent years.
Their 19-7 record was far less dominant than the 29-1 campaign of 2025, and HLE pushed them all the way to a tiebreaker. Even so, Gen.G’s strong head-to-head results against their closest rival proved decisive.
Hanwha Life also enter the postseason in an excellent position after ending the regular season with consecutive sweeps. T1 and Dplus KIA face a more difficult route from Round 1, while KT must survive the Play-In before even reaching the main bracket.
The standings are now settled, but the narrow margins between Korea’s leading teams suggest the fight for the 2026 LCK championship remains wide open.
