Gen.G Esports came out on top at the 2025 Esports World Cup, beating China’s AG.AL in a very close 3-2 series in the League of Legends finals. With this win, they took home $600,000 and earned 1,000 points toward the overall EWC Club Championship. The games were not always clean, but Gen.G finished strong when it was needed most.

Gen.G had been undefeated all year and entered the event as MSI 2025 winners, so pressure was already there. They opened the series strong, winning the first two matches with solid drafts and better team coordination. AG.AL, however, didn’t let go so easily.

In game 3, they played much more controlled. Their map presence and fight timings were sharper, and they cut the series to 2-1. Then Game 4, Gen.G actually had a decent early lead, but it slipped away later. AG.AL punished them well in teamfights and made it 2-2.

Game 5 was all Gen.G. Chovy picked Twisted Fate and played it nearly perfectly, pressuring all sides with his roams. Kiin on Camille also found angles constantly, diving into backlines and controlling flanks. AG.AL tried to answer, but couldn’t keep up this time.

The game didn’t feel as close as the scoreline, and Gen.G closed it out with little risk. After the match, Chovy simply said, “We just wanted to make a show,” like the pressure didn’t affect him.

Kiin took the Sony MVP award and $10,000 for his efforts. Across the event, his performances were consistent. He always found good teleports and made an impact in most fights. His Camille and Ambessa were both difficult for enemy teams to deal with.

Some upsets happened early. FURIA from Brazil knocked out Cloud9 in groups, which surprised many. But they later lost to FlyQuest, who looked solid.

The quarterfinals had Gen.G, T1, AG.AL, Bilibili Gaming, G2 Esports, FlyQuest, Hanwha Life Esports, and Movistar KOI. G2 pulled off a big win over Bilibili using the “Fearless” draft, where teams can’t repeat champion picks. Caps played LeBlanc in the last game, and that turned out to be the difference.

G2 then lost to Gen.G in the semifinals, where Kiin’s Game 3 was the decider. Meanwhile, AG.AL shocked T1 with a clean 2-0 and ended their title defense. T1 did win over G2 later to place third.

League of Legends EWC 2025  Grand Finals Recap

  • Game 1: Gen.G used Varus and Yone to win fights early. AG.AL’s Azir-Jhin combo couldn’t hold up.
  • Game 2: Chovy played Galio, while Kiin’s Ambessa pushed top advantage. AG.AL didn’t scale fast enough.
  • Game 3: AG.AL came back with Renekton front and Sivir damage, turning the pace in their favor.
  • Game 4: Gen.G got early leads, but Blitzcrank picks and Miss Fortune ults let AG.AL even the series.
  • Game 5: Gen.G locked Camille, Twisted Fate, and Renata Glasc controlled map, took every fight right.

With this win, Gen.G leads in the EWC Club Championship chase. They looked shaky mid-series but still pulled through. If they keep playing like this, another title might just be waiting before the year ends.
