2024 has been Gen.G’s year so far. They’ve already won the LCK Spring title followed by their first Mid-Season Invitational victory. Their streak continued into the LCK Summer split, breaking the LCK record for the longest winning streak not only once, but twice. They finished the regular season with an impressive 17-1 record, their only loss owed to KT Rolster.

Gen.G and HLE both entered the playoffs as strong contenders. Gen.G, as the top seed, skipped the first round and went directly to the Upper Bracket Semifinals where they made quick work of DPlus KIA, sweeping them 3-0. This victory put them in a winner’s bracket final against HLE, who finished second in the Summer Split and beat T1 in their semifinal match.

HLE started strong in Game 1, throwing Gen.G off-balance with a creative strategy thanks to Zeka’s Smolder pick. After a 33-minute battle, HLE took the win with a 17-6 kill lead. Gen.G bounced back in Game 2, their key players being Lehends’ Renata Glasc with its perfectly timed Bailouts and Peyz’ Kalista grabbing every chance to secure kills. Gen.G won in just 28 minutes, tying the series.

Game 3 saw HLE try a risky bot lane strategy which unfortunately backfired, and Gen.G wasted no time turning the tides. Kiin’s Nasus became the star of the show, a huge factor in shutting down HLE’s key players, leading to a 38-minute win for Gen.G. The team of Jhin, Blitzcrank, and Maokai worked together perfectly in Game 4, bringing Gen.G victory with a 24-8 kill lead and taking the series 3-1.

However, the team is still aiming to clinch another LCK championship title and to enter Worlds as the first seed. All eyes turn to Gen.G as their consistency and excellent play easily make them a favorite bet not only for the Summers but also for Worlds 2024.
