Summary:

  • Gen.G secured their spot in the Worlds 2025 Swiss Stage after their 3-2 win against T1 on September 21 in the LCK Playoffs Lower Bracket Round 3.

Gen.G and T1 added another chapter to their famous rivalry with a close five-game series. Gen.G came out on top, earning a spot in the Worlds 2025 Swiss Stage and at least the LCK’s third seed. For T1, the loss means they’ll start in the Play-Ins for the first time in years as the region’s fourth seed. With Worlds seeding at stake, their Lower Bracket Round 3 match delivered everything fans expected.

Worlds 2025 Format and Seeding

The Gen.G vs T1 matchup surprisingly came earlier. Both teams entered the 2025 LCK Playoffs as favorites to win it all, but upsets from KT Rolster and Hanwha Life Esports knocked them into the lower bracket. That turned their meeting into a do-or-die series, with the winner securing a direct ticket to the Worlds 2025 Swiss Stage.

Because of the new format, the 4th seed from the top two MSI regions doesn’t go straight to Swiss anymore. Instead, those teams must play each other in the Play-Ins for a spot. Since the LCK and LPL got the extra Worlds slots this year, the loser of Gen.G vs T1 would automatically drop into Play-Ins to face China’s 4th seed.

The matchup lived up to the hype. Gen.G and T1 traded blows across five intense games, each showing flashes of brilliance. But when it mattered most, Gen.G kept their composure and secured the win.

Game 1

Gen.G opened the series with a late-game draft, putting Ruler on Yunara and Kiin on Camille. Despite T1’s early lead from Doran’s Ambessa and Faker’s Orianna, Gen.G’s scaling champs proved too much as the game stretched. Duro’s engages on Braum helped Gen.G win crucial teamfights and got them the first game.

Game 2

In Game 2, T1 struck back with Oner on Jarvan IV—the same champion he scored a pentakill with against Dplus KIA. He dominated again, roaming the map to secure kills and set up Gumayusi’s Miss Fortune and Doran’s Aatrox to snowball. T1 held the gold and kill lead from start to finish, closing out Gen.G’s nexus to tie the series.

Game 3

Faker and Doran were the key players this game, starting strong by using Taliyah’s ultimate and Jax to secure first blood. Faker worked well with Oner’s aggressive Wukong, giving T1 many chances to win fights and take objectives. In the end, Faker’s Taliyah caught Chovy’s Ahri for the game-ending pick. Gen.G fell apart in midlane as Doran and Gumayusi added huge damage, bringing T1 to match point.

Game 4

Game 4 flipped the script. Gen.G support Duro locked in Blitzcrank and repeatedly landed hooks on T1’s carries, dismantling their setup. With perfect team coordination, Gen.G built a massive lead and evened the series.

Game 5

In the final game, both teams went for very different styles. T1 picked a poke comp with Jayce and Ziggs, while Gen.G chose a heavy engage lineup with Ornn, Nocturne, and Rakan.

Gen.G’s all-in strategy worked out. After winning a huge fight around Atakhan and Dragon Soul, they pushed straight into T1’s base to end the series. Chovy was named Player of the Match for his standout performance across all five games.

With this win, Gen.G moves on to face KT Rolster in the Lower Bracket Final and has already secured their spot in the Worlds 2025 Swiss Stage. No matter what happens in the LCK Finals, they’re guaranteed to be among the top 16 teams at Worlds. After struggling earlier in the playoffs, this victory gives them back their confidence and momentum heading into the international stage.

For T1, the road gets harder. The defending World Champions must now fight through the Play-Ins to keep their title defense alive. It’s the first time in years they’ve been in this position, which puts pressure on them to prove they can bounce back. Still, with Faker and a roster known for miracle clutches, fans know T1 can’t be counted out.
