Gen.G and Burberry to launch educational series focused on women and inclusivity in esports

Global esports organization Gen.G has joined forces with British fashion brand Burberry to support women and inclusivity in esports. As a part of the collaboration, the two brands will create a series of educational content aimed at “highlighting the underrepresentation of women in leadership within the industry”.

According to the press release, the four-episode video series hosted by entrepreneur and content creator Emily Ghoul will feature open discussions about challenges in gaming, toxic online environments, stereotyping and underrepresentation.

A number of women, content creators and influencers from across the industry, alongside members of the Burberry team will be a part of the project, which is reportedly built on a “commitment to helping underrepresented communities gain skills and insights that will empower them to go beyond”.

The Gen.G x Burberry educational series 

A total of four episodes will be released within the Gen.G x Burberry collaboration, with a new episode set to release every two weeks. The first one is scheduled to launch today, July 28. The series will be available on Burberry’s website as well as on its social platforms including TikTok, YouTube and Twitch. 

Episode 1 – My Platform is My Power 

In this episode, Gen.G streamer Krysta “Krystalogy” Eason, Founder of Enlightgg Eunice Chen, and Burberry’s Vice President of Brand Protection Melissa Roth Mendez, will talk about the power of social platforms in creating a better future.

Episode 2 – The I in Imagination 

This episode will see Gen. G and Logitech content creator Jessica Kim, singer and Twitch streamer Stephanie Poetri, and Burberry Senior CAD Manager Lucy Goodyear explore the use of creativity to inspire women online and to encourage self- expression.

Episode 3 – Voices and Choices for Change

The third episode featuring Netflix TV personality and Twitch streamer Jacki Jing, YouTuber and esports commentator Evan “Raynday” Raynr, and gaming creator Shannon Williams, will discuss how women use their voice to inspire advocacy and the role men can play in allyship.

 

Episode 4 – Supercharging Self-Care 

In the final episode of the series, Gen.G content creator Gloria “Ploo” Shin, Founder and President of Latinx in Gaming Cristina Amaya, and Burberry Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion Geoffrey Williams, will focus on how to avoid burnout and the importance of self-care and mental health.

Gen.G Foundation Scholarship donation 

Furthermore, Burberry will also donate to the Gen.G Foundation Scholarship which is aimed at developing young gamers with the potential to lead the industry’s next generation and at promoting a culture of diversity and inclusion. The company will select one recipient whose university will receive the scholarship in September 2022.

Gen.G’s commitment to developing a new generation of esports professionals 

The Burberry collaboration marks another step in Gen.G’s commitment to developing the esports and gaming industries whilst supporting inclusivity in esports, which manifested into its numerous partnerships and projects. 

Besides that, the Korea-based organization also runs the Gen.G Global Esports Academy, which provides students with gaming, esports, and technology-driven education and experiences. The academy in Seoul connects students from the U.S. and Asia and offers them US-accredited education with a US high school diploma. Moreover, Gen.G also offers an international esports exchange programme in partnership with the University of Kentucky Hanyang University and Korea University.
