After nearly 2 years missing from the professional DOTA scene, Malaysian esports team— Geek Fam has made their return to the scene. Geek Fam debuted its first iteration of DOTA 2 roster back in 2016 and it quickly rose to its ranks within the SEA scene and the team is considered to have a potential as they constantly make deep runs during the qualifier stages to Majors.
Early Years
Before their disband, Geek Fam made waves in the SEA scene and starting from 2017 they put on consistent results proving they have a potential in the SEA region. The team also used to be a home to notorious veterans like the late Alaan “Sexy Bamboe” Faraj. Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung, Kee “ChYuan” Chyuan Ng, Vincent “Alacrity” Yoong and Lee “kYxY” Kong Yang also used to in the past iterations of the team but suffice to say they didn’t get the results they hope for . It was also a team where Cheng “Nothing To Say” Jin Xiang first debuted and got to prove himself. The final version of Geek Fam consisted of Mathew “Whitemon” Filemon, Kenny “Xepher” Deo, Carlo “Ku Ku” Palad, Karl “ Karl” Baldovino who carve the way into T1 success by making it to The International 2021 before the team disbanding in prior weeks along with them, Marc Polo “ Raven” Luis Fausto was also part of the final version of Geek Fam.
The team achieved the following during before they went on break:
Tournament | Placement |
One Esports DOTA2 SEA League | 1st |
BTS Pro Series Season 2: Southeast Asia | 1st |
ESL One Birmingham 2020 – Online: Southeast Asia | 3rd |
BTS Pro Series: Southeast Asia | 3rd |
WePlay! Bukovel Minor 2020 | 3rd |
It is estimated that the team had won an approximately $300,253 USD in tournament winnings.
A new hope
This past week, Geek Fam posted a cryptic message on their twitter announcing that they will be returning to the DOTA 2 scene after their hiatus due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

They debuted their Roster on the 25th November against Purple Paradox in the BTS Pro Series S13: SEA featuring the return of one of their former players Rolen “Skem” Andrei Gabriel Ong. Even though their debut didn’t go as planned they managed to tie their series. Their roster for BTS Pro Series consists of fresh new faces and the upcoming talents in the SEA region. Currently their roster consists of :
Roger “Roddgeee” Tan
Ravdan “NARMAN” Narmandakh
Niko “Force” Bilocura
Joshua “avataRmod3″ Maraño
Rolen “skem” Ong
However, this roster could only be for BTS Pro Series and fans will have to wait and see whether there will be roster changes going into the official DPC 2022-2023 season or if the Geek Fam will try for DPC 2022-2023 season at all.
