Gaming platform Roblox sues YouTuber for $1.6 million

Roblox is a kid- and family-friendly platform that just filed a lawsuit in a California court on Tuesday. At issue is YouTuber and content creator Benjamin “Ruben Sim” Simon. He has been banned from the platform for quite some time, but he is now expected to pay $1.6 million damages for harassing Roblox, it’s employees as well as other players.

Ruben Sim has been active on Roblox since 2010, creating videos that are actually aimed at children and teenagers. Of course, he earned a lot of money with that. But as it seems, the 24-year-old US American based in Kentucky has massively harassed his players and the moderators of Roblox.

Ruben Sim is terrorizing mods and players

Besides some satirical videos in which he makes fun of Roblox moderators, there was also his own game, Runker 51, which however was taken down again because of too much blood and “gore”. In his videos, he allegedly sexually harassed other players and publicly threatened the company with a “terrorist act”.

Ruben Sim has made insinuations that he is planning an attack similar to the one made by a 39-year-old woman (and Youtuber) on Youtube’s headquarters in S. Bruno back in April 3, 2018. The woman managed to severely hurt some of the employees before killing herself. Ruben Sim’s threats and insinuations were taken very seriously and as a result Roblox was forced to close its headquarters in San Francisco – for several weeks. This cost the company around 50,000 dollars.

Ruben Sim is accused of glorifying the 2018 YouTube shooting and trying to mimic such an act of terror at the Roblox headquarters. He also allegedly tried to upload a nude of himself with his genitals covered only by a small lamp, and he created several accounts that had racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise inappropriate names that he used to harras players and employees. And if all that wasn’t enough, he also tried to upload a sex game and pictures of Hitler.

Although the American has been officially banned from the platform for years, he has repeatedly created new accounts under false names to harass people on Roblox. Ruben Sim’s behavior is borderline. His half-hearted nude is on the borderline of assault, his terror threats and various gore videos definitely overstep the line.

Overstepping boundaries

Most people who hang out on the internet have probably (and unfortunately) experienced harsher stories. Nevertheless, Roblox clearly wants to put a stop to such behavior, because after all, it is a platform for a fairly young target group and the company wants to make its site as safe as possible for children.

That’s why they have around 2000 employees who make sure that nothing potentially dangerous or inappropriate is uploaded to Roblox. Nevertheless, these workers are overwhelmed with the mass of sexual content that keeps finding its way onto the site despite the monitoring. Roblox is therefore accused of being a “playground for virtual fascists,” among other things.

Ruben Sim’s YT- account currently has 766k subscribers. Roblox worth is an estimated $45 billion. It’s pretty obvious who can afford the better lawyers here.
