Gamers 4 the Planet documentary by Betclic Apogee

Betclic Apogee, the world’s first Carbon Neutral certified esports team, continues blurring a trail in this field. This time, the team announces the creation of the Gamers 4 the Planet global platform.

The platform will estimate the industry’s environmental impact and decrease gamers’ ecological footprint worldwide. The documentary Restart the Game, released yesterday, is the first tangible result of the initiative.

Restart the Game; the documentary

The latest initiative includes the release of a documentary directed by João Pedro Moreira and featuring original music by DJ Riot. Restart the Game reflects another stage in the activism of the Lisbon-based team, which currently includes 11 athletes from Portugal, Italy, and Poland.

This documentary presents an overview of the impressive ecological footprint of gaming, which already involves 40% of the world’s population and whose industry turnover last year was close to €200 billion.

The characterization of this activity and its prospects, including the possibility of participating in the Olympic Games, intersect with its environmental impact. Although technological advances may suggest otherwise, the fact is that the energy consumption associated with the games has continued to grow in recent years. For example, the move from 1080p to 4K resolution has led to a 64% increase.
