The Group Stage of Worlds 2020 has entered its 3rd competitive day and we can already see some patterns in how the teams play and how the Worlds meta is evolving. So far, every competitor that was expected to do well has confirmed the expectations. In particular, G2 Esports, Gen.G Esports, and DAMWON Gaming have al managed to win their matches against their group rivals.

G2 Esports

G2 Esports entered Worlds 2020 as the finalist from Worlds 2019 and the winner of the last 4 splits in LEC. It’s hard to be more dominant than this and as a consequence of this, the community expects them to do well. And so far, they have done exactly that.

G2 Esports played one match against Suning, China’s 3rd best team, and one against Machi Esports, which is the strongest team in LMS.

Gen.G Esports

Arguably the 3rd best team in South Korea, Gen.G Esports struggled to find a win against LGD Gaming but then went on to demolish Team SoloMid in under 28 minutes. Given the fact that they now have 2 wins and 0 losses, I think it’s safe to assume that they’ll continue to get good results and will almost certainly qualify for the Playoffs of Worlds 2020.

DAMWON Gaming

DAMWON Gaming is the big favorite of Worlds 2020 and so far, they’ve shown us why. The South Korean team smashed JDG in its first match of the tournament and then went on to defeat Rogue as well. The fact that two highly regarded competitors got defeated by DAMWON in such a dominant fashion (the matches lasted 24 and 34 minutes respectively) clearly proves that we’re likely headed for a Grand Final in which one of the participants will be from South Korea.
