In a rather surprising move, G2 have decided to sign malbsMd from M80. In other words, a team that benched nexa because it wanted to reach an even higher rank (G2 is currently ranked 6th), made the decision to sign an obscure player from a CS2 team that wasn’t even in the top 20.
This could easily backfire but for the time being, we have to trust that G2’s players and management know what they’re doing. It’s not easy to fully figure out what the logic was but we can tell that malbsMd was performing very well in M80.
In fact, his rating 2.0 over the last three months was 1.34, which is extremely high considering the fact that M80 was not that successful during this time.

Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa si a 21-year-old from Guatemala, which isn’t exactly famous for its CS2 scene. But it seems that he is driven to succeed, and this signing might be the opportunity that he’s been waiting for.
G2 are currently a strong team thanks to NiKo and m0NESY. HooXi’s strategies are sound and huNter- is always contributing a lot, supporting the roster’s superstars with very clever tactics.
At IEM Dallas, we had the opportunity to witness just how good G2 can be when m0NESY and NiKo play their part to perfection. Both of them finished in the top five at the individual level in 2023. So for malbsMd to succeed, very little needs to happen.
If he can contribute to the team’s effort as much as nexa and hopefully a little bit more, he shouldn’t have any problems. Looking at his individual stats, it’s clear that he’s a talented player who is currently playing the best CS of his career.
The opportunity that came his way will likely motivate him even more. G2 only need a stable player who can consistently give them good individual performances. If they have such a teammate, m0NESY, NiKo, and huNter- will do the rest.
But there’s a good chance that malbsMd will prove to be more than just a decent player. If he could get 0.85 kills per round and a 65.2% headshots percentage while competing for M80, his individual scores could easily skyrocket when he’s part of a formidable roster whose strategy is world-class.
Until the end of the year, G2 will play in plenty of S-tier tournaments, so we’ll find out pretty soon whether or not the new signing was a smart move or not.
