The Group Stage of LEC Summer 2020 is over and we’re about to enter the Playoffs. The competition looks very promising in terms of what it can offer to viewers, simply because we have a new team at the top of the standings table. This is a situation we haven’t seen in a long time. Usually, it’s either G2 Esports or Fnatic. One of these teams generally wins over the other. But now it’s Rogue. Remember that team that finished last in LEC 2019 Spring? Look at them now. And the team that finished 2nd that split, Origen, is now 10th in the league. This goes to show you just how much things can change in just 3 splits.

LEC Summer 2020 Group Stage Results

The Group Stage results of LEC Summer 2020 were surprising, to say the least. And not just because Rogue won. G2 Esports, the decisive winner of LEC Spring 2020, managed to lose 7 matches out of 18. And Fnatic, the runner-up of that split and one of the best teams throughout the history of the league, finished 4th with 9 wins and 9 losses.

Quite obviously, the ongoing global crisis and the changes it brought have demotivated many of the top players. And that’s understandable, because these competitors tend to find great joy in galvanizing a crowd. If there’s no spectacle, the desire to train hard decreases. And the results naturally go down. We’ve seen this in other esports as well and it’s no pretty. But it is interesting to watch. Because other teams get a shot at the title they may have never had otherwise.

These are the Group Stage results for LEC Summer 2020:

  • 1st place: Rogue: 13 W – 5 L
  • 2nd place: MAD Lions: 12 W – 6 L
  • 3rd place: G2 Esports: 11 W – 7 L
  • 4th place: Fnatic: 9 W – 9 L
  • 5th place: SK Gaming: 9 W – 9 L
  • 6th place: FC Schalke 04 Esports: 8 W – 10 L
  • 7th place: Excel Esports: 8 W – 10 L
  • 8th place: Misfits Gaming: 7 W – 11 L
  • 9th place: Team Vitality: 7 W – 11 L
  • 10th place: Origen: 6 W – 12 L

Notice how balanced the league is. With 7 wins and 11 losses you’re next to last. And even the number one team has 5 losses. That’s incredible. But it’s also mainly the result of the Bo1 competitive format. With Bo3 matches, the situation would be quite different.

LEC Summer 2020 Playoffs Predictions

The Playoffs Stage of LEC Summer 2020 is scheduled to take place Between August 21st – September 6th. The competitive format is double-elimination. Four teams, Rogue, MAD Lions, Fnatic, and G2 Esports start in the Upper Bracket. SK Gaming and FC Schalke 04 Esports start in the Lower Bracket.

The big favorites of this competition are Rogue and G2 Esports. Gun to the head, I’d definitely pick G2 Esports. It’s the team that dominated the Spring split and it also did well in the Group Stage against Rogue and most of the other competitors.
