G2 Esports Set to Make Changes to VALORANT Roster

If speculation is to be believed, G2 Esports is on the verge of making significant changes to its VALORANT lineup, with Aleksander “zeek” Zygmunt to be benched. The organization is reportedly on the hunt for a new in-game leader, following G2’s disappointing performance at the VALORANT Champions Tour.

Having been within the VALORANT scene since its formation, G2 quickly became the leading team in Europe, thanks to the help of several former CS:GO pros. However, following a defeat to Heretics at the First Strike event, G2’s performances and results quickly went downhill. As a result, Arran “Halo” Spake has now said that they would be reviewing its roster ahead of 2021’s next events.

Who Could Replace zeek at G2?

The dropping of zeek appears to be the first move, with the Pole having only recently joined G2 in order to replace David “Davidp” Prins. Davidp lost his place in the team following G2’s defeat at the hands of Heretics. Zeek has been with G2 for just over two months, however it appears that the org has lost patience already.

Rumors are mounting that G2 could be looking to bring CS:GO favorite Alex “ALEX” McMeekin as team captain, with the former Cloud9 man having already been practicing with the team. However, according to reliable source, neL, ALEX had turned down the approach from G2. The Brit was recently benched by Cloud9, a decision which means that he is now focusing on CS:GO streaming. It would not come as a surprise if ALEX and G2 did thrash out a deal in the coming weeks.

What Other Changes Can We Expect from G2?

With trials for new players ongoing, the search for a new in-game leader also continues. Oskar “Ozzy” Scott has been seen trialing with the team, with the CS:GO veteran being a potential replacement for zeek. It remains to be seen as to exactly what changes G2 will make, however they will happen. The team was eliminated from the VALORANT Champions Tour Stage 2: Challengers first qualifiers, having lost to Team Vitality.
