G2 Esports got off to a solid start at VCT Masters Reykjavik, winning the first match of the playoffs in a two-map series today against Japan’s ZETA DIVISION.

On their own map, Split, ZETA went for an aggressive start from the first minute. Several times throughout the first half, they were caught off guard while furiously attempting to seize the lead. The approach appeared to fail, and G2 didn’t waste any time in punishing them for their blunders. G2 swiftly secured an anti-eco round and a thrifty to take a 7-5 lead at the halftime.

In the second half, G2 maintained its lead, winning important team fights in post-plant circumstances. SugarZ3ro’s Zeta put in an outstanding effort, but the rest of the squad was inefficient and helpless in the face of G2’s heroic attacks. Only two rounds were won by ZETA, and the rest of the second half was dominated by G2. The team won the round 13-7, putting the Japanese team on the back foot and under pressure to make a comeback.

Despite losing the first round by a large margin, Zeta rallied in the first half of the Bind. TENNN and Dep had a fantastic start to the round, assisting the team in taking an early lead on G2. However, as soon as the game approached halftime, G2 stepped up their game and came close to tying the game with a 5-7 score.

G2 advanced to Upper Bracket Semifinals

The second half was extremely close, as neither team was able to take a significant lead. G2 ramped up their game at the last minute to win three consecutive rounds and the map by a score of 13-10. Despite a spectacular effort in the second Map, ZETA was unable to win the game by a razor-thin margin and was instantly relegated to the loser bracket.

Because the squad hadn’t played a single match on the LAN event yet, G2 appeared apprehensive and even choked at one point. ZETA, on the other hand, felt optimistic after a successful group stage run that included victories over Fnatic and Nip. Despite the team’s tragic loss to the G2, its dreams for the trophy remain alive. They will continue their adventure in the loser bracket, but it will not be easy given the tournament’s high competition.

In the first loser bracket round, ZETA will face Team Liquid, while G2 will face Team LOUD in the semifinals on April 17.
