FUT and Team Liquid face elimination match for Champions 2026 berth

FUT Esports and Team Liquid are set for one of the most important VALORANT matches of their 2026 seasons, with a direct place at VALORANT Champions Shanghai on the line.

The two teams meet in the VCT EMEA Stage 2 Lower Final on August 29 in Barcelona. FUT dropped into the elimination bracket after losing 0-2 against Karmine Corp in the Upper Final, while Liquid kept their campaign alive by sweeping Fire Flux Esports 2-0.

The winner advances to the Stage 2 Grand Final and secures direct qualification for Champions 2026. The loser finishes third and sees its Stage 2 route come to an end.

Karmine Corp become first EMEA finalist

Karmine Corp entered the Upper Final against FUT knowing one victory would achieve two objectives at once: a place in the Stage 2 Grand Final and qualification for VALORANT Champions.

KC delivered.

The team won Lotus 13-6 before taking Haven 13-8, completing a clean 2-0 series and becoming the first finalist of the Barcelona weekend.

The result continued an impressive playoff run for a roster that entered the season with several new pieces and relatively limited Championship Points.

Team Liquid survive against Fire Flux

Team Liquid faced a very different situation.

After losing their opening Upper Quarterfinal 0-2 against FUT, Liquid were forced into the lower bracket immediately. From that point onward, every match became an elimination series.

Liquid responded by beating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 and Enterprise Esports 2-0 before meeting Fire Flux in Barcelona.

That match remained competitive on both maps, but Liquid proved stronger in the closing rounds.

Team Liquid won Haven and Lotus by identical 13-10 scorelines to keep their Champions hopes alive.

FUT get another chance after Upper Final loss

FUT now have an immediate opportunity to recover from their defeat against Karmine Corp.

Their path to the Upper Final included victories over Team Liquid and BBL Esports. The earlier result against Liquid is particularly important because it provides FUT with recent evidence that they can win this matchup.

In their Upper Quarterfinal meeting, FUT defeated Liquid 2-0.

Both maps were extremely close, however. Haven and Summit each finished 13-11, suggesting the gap between the teams was much smaller than the series score might imply.

VALORANT Champions 2026 takes place in Shanghai from September 24 through October 18 and represents the final international event of the competitive season.

The best teams from EMEA, Pacific, Americas and China will compete for the world championship.

For FUT and Liquid, the Lower Final offers the clearest possible route: win the series and qualification is guaranteed.

That simplicity also increases the pressure. There is no lower bracket after this match and no opportunity to recover from a poor performance within Stage 2.

Barcelona will crown its champion on August 30

The winner of FUT versus Liquid will return to the stage one day later for a rematch against Karmine Corp.

That Grand Final will determine the VCT EMEA Stage 2 champion and regional seeding heading toward Champions.

KC will have an important advantage in preparation and rest after reaching the final through the upper bracket, while their opponent will arrive directly from an elimination best-of-five.

For FUT, reaching the final would create an immediate opportunity for revenge after the 0-2 Upper Final loss.

For Liquid, it would complete a remarkable lower-bracket run after beginning the playoffs with defeat.

Assessment

The VCT EMEA Stage 2 Lower Final has become a straightforward qualification battle with enormous consequences.

FUT should take confidence from their previous 2-0 victory over Liquid, but both maps in that series were decided by narrow margins. Liquid have also gained momentum through three consecutive lower-bracket victories and now enter Barcelona with extensive experience playing under elimination pressure.

The best-of-five format should provide a clearer indication of which team has the deeper map pool and greater ability to adjust.
