It’s a sad day for Rainbow Six Siege fans, as FURIA Esports, one of the game’s top teams, has announced its departure from the competitive scene. The Brazilian team had become a powerhouse in the game.

FURIA’s departure from the Rainbow Six Siege scene has surprised many, as the team had been a consistent regional force in the game over the past few years.

FURIA Esports leaves Rainbow Six Siege competitive scene

Jaime Pádua, the founder of FURIA Esports, published a TwitLonger where he explained why the organization decided to leave the R6 scene.

Pádua said:

“We want to inform everyone who has followed FURIA in R6 since 2020 that we have decided to disconnect from the modality. This does not mean that we will never return to the sport, as we are always open to reviewing our decisions and considering the entertainment, fun, and performance opportunities for our fans. Still, the time has come to say goodbye. Managing performance in an eSports organization is complex, perhaps more complicated than many might imagine. However, balancing the various variables within an ecosystem ensures the game’s sustainability.”

Undoubtedly, the FURIA Esports lineup was one of the most consistent within the Rainbow Six competitive scene. However, the team’s revenue became the organization’s main enemy.

FURIA qualified for the first two Majors played in 2022, in Charlotte and Berlin. In Germany, the Brazilian team made a good impression by reaching the quarterfinals but was eliminated by FaZe Clan.

Pádua says there is no connection between the game and the fans

It is no secret that esports and the teams themselves are sustained by the fan base they may have. According to the FURIA founder, Rainbow Six could not attract new players or fans over the years, something that the legendary CS:GO, LoL, and even VALORANT have done in just two years since their launch.

Pádua continued by saying:

“A fascinating game – It has to cause adrenaline. It generates a kind of connection between players and spectators that is magical. CSGO and LOL often show this. VALORANT has already arrived in explosive form and will shine even brighter. Rocket League fills arenas where people also go crazy. Fortunately, R6 also fulfills part of this requirement. However, this is only part of the formula.”

Future of players

It is currently unclear what the future holds for the former FURIA members. They may regroup and create a new team or explore options for a new home. But for now, all we can do is wish them the best of luck in whatever they decide to do.

However, the players are still part of the organization and will be in it until they get a new home. These players are:

  • Luiz “Miracle” Abrantes
  • Diogo “Fntzy” Lima
  • Rennan “R4re” Vitor
  • Thiago Sá “Handyy” Ferreira
  • Willian “Stk” da Costa
  • Eduardo “KDS” Chiste Fontes

This lineup was consistent in all the tournaments he participated in, especially in the last two seasons. Let’s remember that FURIA Esports qualified for all the Majors played in the post-Pandemic era.

FURIA joins TSM as the organization to withdraw from the Rainbow Six competitive scene in less than a week. This leaves fans of this esports game very worried, as the departure of two major organizations may mean a somewhat dark future for this video game.
