FURIA Esports defeated Guild Esports 4-0 in the Grand Final to become the winners of Gamers8 Rocket League 2022, taking home the biggest prize in Rocket League history. It’s the first time a South American Rocket League team has won international gold.

Brazilian team FURIA was yesterday crowned the winner of one of the biggest tournaments in Rocket League history. Along with 23 teams from around the world, FURIA came to the Gamer8 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with an invitation. The team have been seeing good results lately and entered the race as one of the favourites. They took home $500,000 in prize money, the largest cash prize in Rocket League history.

FURIA’s run in Gamers8

FURIA started dominantly in Group C and immediately managed a 3-1 win against OWL Esports. Then they went on to defeat F16 Esports 3-2 in the following best-of-five series and took first place in Group C. The quarterfinal matchup against Complexity Esports ended 4-2 in FURIA’s favour.

On the last day of the Gamers8 Rocket League, four teams from four different regions fought for first place, namely FaZe Clan, Team Falcons, Guild Esports and FURIA Esports. Guild Esports defeated FaZe Clan with a convincing 4-0. FaZe tried everything in game 4 but it wasn’t enough. They finished in 3rd-4th place and took home $200,000 while Guild Esports advanced to the Grand Final.

Meanwhile, Team Falcons won the first three games against FURIA Esports and wowed the home crowd. However, they stumbled in game 4 and FURIA didn’t let them get back into the lead, winning the match 4-3. Team Falcons still took home $200,000. After that, FURIA and Guild Esports faced off in the Grand Final.

Grand Final

In the big finale of the tournament, FURIA won the first three games against Guild Esports, but Guild wasn’t about to put up with it. The last match was a one-on-one (1v1) between Cristian “crr” Fernandez from Guild Esports and Yan “yanxnz” Xisto Nolasco from FURIA Esports. The burden was too heavy on crr who was trying to keep his team’s chances alive.

In the end, Guild Esports failed to match FURIA’s game. The Brazilians won the game along with the hefty main prize. Guild Esports, who finished second, received $300,000 in prize money.

Gamers8 Rocket League is over, but the event itself is not over yet. Next up is the DOTA 2 tournament, which starts on July 20th. The whole event in Riyadh will run until September 8.
