Developer 11 bit studios has officially shared that Frostpunk 2, the follow-up to its widely played survival city-builder, is finally making its way to consoles. After staying exclusive to PC for a while, it now heads towards PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Also, players subscribed to Xbox Game Pass will be getting access to the game right from launch day.
In addition to digital availability, the studio is once again partnering with Skybound Games to bring two collectible physical editions for those who prefer holding the game in their hands. From upgraded controls to exclusive memorabilia, here’s what to expect from Frostpunk 2’s console debut.
Frostpunk 2 Console Release Date
11 bit studios has confirmed that Frostpunk 2 is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 18, 2025. On that same day, the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass for subscribers, letting more players play the game without any added cost.
Though a console version was mentioned earlier, no clear timeline was provided until now. The September release marks a major expansion for the game’s audience, letting players beyond PC dive into its bleak, strategic world.
Interface and Controls Reworked for Console Comfort
Adapting a game like Frostpunk 2, with its many systems and menus, to a controller setup isn’t a simple task. As explained by Production Coordinator Igor Skibinski, the team tried early on to carry over as much of the old UI as they could, but soon found that wouldn’t work.
Since the second game plays differently from the first one, they had to redo many systems for the console. The interface now uses a radial menu and trigger-based district switching, which should make playing feel smoother on a controller. According to Skibinski, their main goal was to avoid frustrating menus and let players focus on choices and survival instead.
Icebreaker and Whiteout Editions Offer Bonus Content for Fans
Fans looking to add Frostpunk 2 to their collection physically will be able to choose from two distinct editions:
Icebreaker Edition
- Disc copy of the full game
- A small diorama of New London’s setting
- Digital download of the novella Warm Flesh
- A digital artbook filled with concept visuals
Whiteout Edition
- Everything that’s included in Icebreaker Edition
- Packaged in a specially crafted shadow box with built-in LED lights
- Deluxe Edition upgrade, which adds three planned DLCs
- Metal-and-enamel keychain
- Frostpunk stickers, two premium postcards
- One embroidered patch representing either the Icebloods or the Technocrats factions
Both editions are designed for collectors and fans who want to dive deeper into the world beyond just playing the game. By launching Frostpunk 2 on Xbox Game Pass, 11 bit studios are opening the gates to players who might not have considered trying a survival strategy title before.
