Besides multiple Major tournaments, last weekend saw also the RCADIA VALORANT United Spring 2022 Lan regional event, which offered important Project V points for the participating teams in Germany.

If you want to see our impressions from the event as a video, you can find our VLOG from the weekend here on our YouTube channel.

What is the RCADIA?

RCADIA is one of the largest gaming houses in Europe that has been under construction in a building of an old hotel in Hamburg, Germany since 2021. A multifaceted meeting point for gamers and esports teams comprises a venue for gaming events and accommodation in one place.

In addition to boot camp rooms and an event hall, RCADIA offers a wide variety of entertainment options, including Sim Racing, Tower Tag and an AR Escape Room. It doesn’t matter whether it’s esports teams who need a short break or simply guests who seek fun — everyone is welcome in RCADIA.

The RCADIA VALORANT United Spring 2022

24 German Valorant teams, a total of 120 players, participated in the RCADIA VALORANT United Spring 2022 last week following the inauguration of RCADIA’s new hall. With 10 tables behind the stage and 2 tables right on the stage, 60 players could simultaneously battle for the spots in the playoffs. There were multiple well-known names among the participants, as well as some unknown teams who wanted to gain their first experience in a LAN event.

The mood among the teams was great. Besides competing, they made content together and watched the other matches while discussing the games. No matter how small or unknown they were, every team was respected. It was definitely a unique experience and worth the trip even for the teams eliminated after the group stage.

The surprise of the tournament for many was probably GHR E-Sports, who were able to play their way into the playoffs with 4 wins, only to then move into the final with two more wins as an underdog. Dortmund eSports the other finalist was also the favourite for many.

At first, GHR held up and was even able to win a map. In the end, however, it was Dortmund who won the best-of-3 series with a 2:1 score. For the first-place finish, GHR took home €1,000 in prize money, along with 1,000 Project V points and a one-week boot camp at RCADIA.

“Pay to play” event creates discussion

Unlike the previous Project V tournaments, the RCADIA VALORANT United Spring 2022 Lan was not a free event. Teams that wanted to participate had to pay an entrance fee of 125€.

After the event was announced, the German Valorant community was somewhat divided. While many were excited, others felt left out because they were unable to pay for the travel, accommodation and entry fee. That’s why Fragster was there and asked what participants think about it.

At a first glance, this seemed like a contradiction to the philosophy of Project V, which says that everyone can participate and that the entire community should be involved. On the other hand, offline tournaments are an important part of the team experience.

What is still open to debate, however, is the large amount of Project V points that were awarded for the event. Compared to the previous free-to-play events, this one was significantly larger and could create a slight imbalance in the rankings.

Such large events require a whole range of people, work and organizational effort, therefore it’s really nice to see that there are committed people who want to make a difference. We would like to say THANK YOU to everyone involved and wish for more regional events all over Europe.
