Today has been yet another day of ridiculous VALORANT action. Team Liquid absolutely crushed NiP, FPX dismantled BBL, and G2 valiantly fought through five overtimes against Giants. These matches have huge implications for tomorrow’s matches. Nothing is set in stone yet and none of the teams are safe in their positions.

FUNPLUS PHOENIX 2-0 BBL ESPORTS

We called it yesterday already – BBL are not cut out of the same material as the rest of the teams in attendance. While this is unfortunate for the Turkish roster, they’ll be able to take home some valuable experience. VALORANT esports is still young and there will be plenty of opportunities for them to prove themselves, once they have found their footing.

G2 ESPORTS 1-1 GIANTS

The European players continue to deliver shaky matches at the Allied Esports Odyssey event. On Ascent, Giants took over the match in what was largely a team effort. With a 13-9, they locked in at least one point for the standings. On Haven, they looked to close the game and finally secure a full Best-of-Two for themselves. At first, it appeared as if they could really achieve this. At one point, they led on an 11-7 score line. But G2 Esports didn’t want to concede the match just yet. They mounted a comeback, found a way back into the match and brought it to overtime. The teams continued to trade rounds, until G2 eventually got two consecutive ones. On 18-16, they closed the match in their favor. Ardis “ardiis” Svarenieks was the top performer on the G2 side.

TEAM LIQUID 2-0 NINJAS IN PYJAMAS

The Ninjas just can’t catch a break. Following a defeat to the G2 squad yesterday, they now had to face the arguably strongest team in attendance. Liquid certainly gave them fire. Travis “L1NK” Mendoza in particular delivered a stellar performance with 46 kills over the course of two maps. The game in itself was absolutely ridiculous. We saw amazing clutches, last second defuses (or defuse fails), smoke kills, and more. Unfortunately, many of these engagements ended in a round win for G2 Esports. Especially on the second map, which Liquid won 13-8, a lot of the rounds could have gone either way. For the Ninjas, this is particularly painful. Because of their decisive losses yesterday and today, their future in the event is uncertain.

Now that Giants are just one point away from tying with NiP, they have a legitimate chance of entering the playoffs. NiP will have to go up against FunPlus Phoenix, whereas Giants only have to face BBL Esports tomorrow. While the rest of the teams are out of reach, Giants could throw the Ninjas out of the top four. As the last play-day approaches, Liquid and FPX are contending for the number one spot. G2 are safe, but their efforts to get into the Top 2 have been severely undermined by today’s match against Giants. The fifth and last play-day of the Group Stage will decide on the final contestants for the playoffs bracket.
