Fortnitemares 2026 is underway, and Epic Games is filling October with a long list of horror, anime and gaming crossovers. Five Nights at Freddy’s opened the event on October 1, while Freddy Krueger arrives next as part of the A Nightmare on Elm Street collaboration.
According to a schedule reported by VICE from Epic’s social channels, the first week will continue with Black Clover, Halloween Horror Nights, Ghost Face and Hollow Knight before more collaborations arrive later in the month.
Freddy Krueger Leads the October 2 Shop Update
Freddy Krueger is one of the biggest characters in this year’s Fortnitemares lineup.
His A Nightmare on Elm Street crossover reaches the Item Shop on October 2, one day after the event officially started. Freddy is also much more than a cosmetic addition.
Epic has added him to the new Nightmare Neighborhood point of interest as an in-game boss. Defeating Freddy rewards players with Freddy’s Nightmare claws, which allow their user to teleport into range before slashing opponents.
The first confirmed shop rollout reported for Fortnitemares includes:
- October 1 – Five Nights at Freddy’s and Nitemare Hack Bundle
- October 2 – Freddy Krueger and Bunny Mummy Quest Pack
- October 3 – Black Clover
- October 4 – Rowena Rabbit Sidekick
- October 5 – Halloween Horror Nights
The schedule gives Epic a major new release almost every day during the opening stage of the Halloween event.
Ghost Face and Hollow Knight Follow
The first week does not stop with Freddy or Black Clover.
Ghost Face is scheduled to arrive on October 6, followed by Hollow Knight on October 7, according to the published shop calendar.
That creates an unusually varied lineup. Fortnitemares traditionally leans heavily into horror characters, but the 2026 event combines established movie franchises with anime, indie gaming and newer entertainment properties.
| Date | Confirmed Shop Release |
|---|---|
| Oct. 2 | Freddy Krueger |
| Oct. 3 | Black Clover |
| Oct. 5 | Halloween Horror Nights |
| Oct. 6 | Ghost Face |
| Oct. 7 | Hollow Knight |
Fortnitemares 2026 is therefore functioning as a month-long crossover event rather than a single Halloween content drop.
Epic’s official announcement confirms that additional characters will continue arriving throughout October.
More Collaborations Are Still Waiting for Dates
Several major franchises have been announced without exact Item Shop dates.
Epic’s official Fortnitemares overview names a much larger group of collaborations that will roll out across October, while VICE notes that some still lack firm release days.
The remaining announced crossover lineup includes:
- Beetlejuice
- The Purge
- 99 Nights in the Forest
- Hazbin Hotel
- Slender Man
- Obsession
- Predator: Badlands
Epic has not provided specific shop dates for all of these collaborations in its main Fortnitemares announcement. Players should therefore distinguish between franchises officially confirmed for October and those that already have a specific release day.
Five Nights at Freddy’s Opened the Event
Five Nights at Freddy’s was first in the 2026 rotation.
The FNAF outfits arrived in the Item Shop when Fortnitemares launched on October 1. Epic says the outfits can display battle damage, giving the crossover an additional visual feature.
FNAF also plays a role in Battle Royale itself.
Players can encounter animatronic bosses and defeat them to take control of one, temporarily creating another gameplay element tied directly to the collaboration.
That mirrors Epic’s approach to Freddy Krueger: several of the major licenses are being integrated into gameplay rather than appearing exclusively as paid cosmetics.
Fortnitemares Adds More Than New Skins
The Halloween event also introduces significant Battle Royale content.
Nightmare Neighborhood joins the island as a new location, while Freaky Fields returns as another major Fortnitemares destination. New equipment includes the Bonerattler SMG, while older Halloween weapons such as the Wood Stake Shotgun and Pumpkin Launcher return.
Horde Rush has also returned.
On October 8, Fortnite Reload receives an updated Nitemare Island map alongside Stranger Things and Squid Grounds. Epic is therefore spreading the event across Battle Royale, Horde Rush and Reload rather than restricting it to the Item Shop.
Assessment
The opening Fortnitemares 2026 schedule shows how aggressively Epic is using crossover releases to maintain momentum throughout October.
Instead of launching every major collaboration simultaneously, Fortnite is spacing characters across consecutive days. That gives Freddy Krueger, Black Clover, Ghost Face and Hollow Knight individual moments in the Item Shop while leaving several major franchises available for later announcements.
The strategy also goes beyond cosmetics. Freddy and the FNAF characters have gameplay roles, while Horde Rush, Nightmare Neighborhood and new weapons give players reasons to engage with the event even if they are not interested in buying skins.
Several shop dates remain unconfirmed, so the complete October calendar can still change as Epic reveals the rest of the rollout.
For now, Fortnitemares 2026 has already established one of Fortnite’s busiest Halloween schedules, with new collaborations arriving almost daily during its opening week.
