Professional Fortnite player and content creator Cody “Clix” Conrod has announced that he will be leaving NRG Esports after more than two years with the org.

Cody “Clix” Conrod made his mark on the professional Fortnite scene during his time at NRG and also found success as a content creator on major platforms such as YouTube and Twitch. Unfortunately, Clix’s time at NRG appears to be coming to an end following an announcement on his Twitter channel.

Fortnite pro Clix is leaving NRG

Clix announced his departure from the esports organization on Wednesday, January 25, 2023.

NRG’s official Twitter account acknowledged the post with a simple reply of two purple hearts, although the organizers have yet to publish their own official post about Clix’s departure. Ahead of the announcement, fans have been speculating whether both Clix and fellow NRG Fortnite Pro Shaun “AussieAntics” Cochrane would be leaving the organization, as both had already removed their association with NRG from their Twitter bios days before.

What will become of the NRG Fortnite lineup?

While it remains to be seen if AussieAntics will leave NRG alongside Clix, if not he would be the only remaining NRG Fortnite player on the roster. It seems like NRG is trying to pull out of competitive Fortnite entirely, judging by the active roster of players in games like Valorant, Apex Legends, and Rocket League. A follow-up tweet from NRG’s Executive Producers suggests that NRG is completely out of Fortnite.

In the past few months, Sentinels, Counter Logic Gaming, and Become Legends have all completely withdrawn from Fortnite, as the organizations don’t seem to see a future in this esports title.

NRG could be the last team to join this growing list, according to Grady Rains’ tweet. The trend is alarming as many esports organizations have decided that there is no clear future in the gaming competitive scene.

The current economic problems could also be the reason for these developments. Many established companies and esports brands have laid off employees since the beginning of 2023, including Microsoft, which laid off 10.000 employees, and Riot Games. Another type of disruption is currently taking place at companies such as Ubisoft. A strike has been planned at the Paris studio as a show of protest after many projects were canceled.

Clix’s future remains uncertain for now as there are few top organizations left looking for free agents. Hopefully, the uncertain situation can stabilize soon.
