Fortnite begins Season 4 with the very first storyline questline titled Welcome to the Infestation, with Power Rangers style combined with bug invasion and some mystery on the island. This guide explains every step, how you can do it, and shortcuts for completing it earlier.
Questline Overview
There are six primary quests and one secret task in this storyline:
- Kill 50 bugs
- Speak with Onyx Winter about joining OXR
- Guard an Outpost
- Kill 30 enemies at The Hive or Ranger’s Ruin
- Speak with Hope or Jones about the tentacle
- Find the Swarm’s way into the Island
- Hidden: Kill 3 Target Dummies
Each quest rewards 30,000 XP, for a total of 180,000 XP if all are completed. No cosmetic rewards in this questline.
Quest-by-Quest Details and Tips

1. Eliminate 50 Bugs
You have to kill insects such as Swarmers, Bombers, and Queens. It is advisable to visit Infested Outposts or Queen Colonies, where there is a high spawn rate. Hive Stashes and purple hives are assisting since bugs respawn very quickly.
2. Talk to Onyx Winter
She is typically in OXR HQ, in a tower with the other NPCs such as Agent Patch or Lt. Ripp Slade. Go and select the diamond icon with an exclamation mark to move ahead.
3. Defend an Outpost
Any Infested Outpost, destroy about 20 bugs in order to complete defense. Have a good weapon since they attack in groups.
4. Eliminate 30 Opponents at The Hive or Ranger’s Ruin
Counts both bug and players. Normally best to just concentrate on bugs. Stay near spawn points and have powerful guns. Bug Blaster is a good example here.
5. Talk to Hope or Jones About the Tentacle
Both Hope and Jones can be located below Supernova Academy, in the east side bunker. Speaking to either of them will complete this quest.
6. Discover the Swarm’s Access Point to the Island
You will seek out a bright purple portal, north of Demon’s Debris and west of Utopia City, sitting atop a small mountain. Talk to it so it becomes dark red, and you’re finished.
Hidden Task: Destroy 3 Target Dummies
Not required for XP, but it is still part if you’re going to do it all.
