Epic Games begins Fortnite Season 4 with a significant game balance change. Within just a few days of Chapter 6: Season 4 releasing, a hotfix went out that reduced power on a number of overpowered weapons and items, and granted one odd buff. These changes are altering the meta significantly, and for many players, it means having to rethink their playstyles.
Major Nerfs in the Update

Some of the highest-tier items in early Season 4 got nerfed. Here is the rundown of what actually got tuned:
| Item | Balance Changes |
|---|---|
| Wrecker Revolver | – Damage reduced by 4% at middle and long range. – Maximum range lowered between 30%–50%. – Headshot damage reduced by 10. – “Double Pump” weapon swap trick fully removed. |
| Shockwave Grenade | – Spawn rate lowered by roughly one third. |
| Swarmstrike Launcher | – The explosion effect area decreased by 15%. |
| Springleg Medallion | – Jump height dropped about 27%. – Energy usage increased by 50%. |
| Surge Medallion | – Movement speed boost reduced by 8%. – The slide bonus dropped by half. |
Missing the “Double Pump” combo for the Wrecker Revolver is perhaps the most conspicuous one. Previously, players could blow through high-pressure bursts up close through fast weapon switching, and it controlled the early battles. Now that it is no more, the short-range gameplay is less devastating.
Why Epic Made the Nerfs
As the season began on 7 August 2025, the match atmosphere became aggressive immediately, high mobility due to medallions and power-hitting weapons such as Wrecker Revolvers were making battles unfair for non-owners.
By reducing the strength of weapon damage and mobility abilities, Epic attempts to retard the rush-heavy playstyle and force players to employ more diversity in combat strategies. Currently, reactions across the community are divided; some welcome the more conservative tempo and emphasis on positioning, while others are missing fast, frantic fights.
The One Buff – Leadspitter 3000

While the majority of the equipment weakened, the Legendary Leadspitter 3000 Minigun strengthened. Recoil now is significantly lower, making it easier to maintain bullets on target for longer before losing aim control. This makes it effective in pressuring the enemy and also suitable for killing the insect enemies associated with the “Shock ‘N Awesome” theme of the season.
Other Updates in the Patch
- O.X.R. Rank Progress – Players now receive rank progression quicker after taking down or killing enemies in Solo games. But overall, Battle Pass XP in most game modes is slower, which extends the grind time.
- Season Theme – Includes bug invasion, new Points of Interest, and exclusive tools for bug hunting. The nerfs do weaken some of the seasonal movement-centric items slightly.
- Next Update Date – Epic already marks 26 August 2025 as the date for the next major patch, so expect more tweaking in the not-too-distant future.
What This Means for Players
1. Gameplay Pace is Different
Without aggressive speed boosts and reduced weapon damage, rushing into every battle is less gratifying. Wiser movement and positioning will be more critical.
2. Variety in Loadouts Could Increase
With the highest items toned down, gamers may resort to experimenting with other weapons or equipment that were not heavily used in the past.
3. Increased Skill Required
Battles now require more precision with the aim and proper timing instead of mere combo abuse, so there will be an increased difference between expert and normal players.
Conclusion
Fortnite Season 4’s initial hotfix altered the atmosphere of matches rapidly. Whether someone enjoys it or not, things do feel different now, and everyone must conform. With the August 26 update on the horizon, the balance may shift once again very shortly.
