Fortnite Buffs Playtime XP by Almost 80% in Major Update

Epic Games has rolled out a significant Fortnite update, which dramatically increases the amount of experience points players will receive just for actively playing in matches (i.e., the time between matchmaking and ultimately leaving). The increase can be anywhere from 30% to almost 80% depending on the mode you are playing, which will make it faster and easier to complete the Battle Pass for players looking to play a more casual way.

This latest update increases playtime XP values across many of the popular modes in Fortnite. Blitz mode received one of the biggest increases, thanks to this update. XP has now gone from 900 to 1,600, an increase of approximately 77.78%. Delulu mode also saw a major increase, now with an XP amount of 1,700 from a previous XP value of 1,000 (approximately a 70% increase). Fortnite festival and the creative modes also increased XP by considerable numbers (~30% increases).

Because of this update, players will no longer be reliant on only eliminations and/or wins to advance through their Battle Pass. Instead, players will now receive XP for being in a match for a duration of time.

An Easier To Challenge Progression System

The XP buff is communicated as a response to ongoing feedback from players regarding the amount of grind necessary to unlock Battle Pass tiers. By focusing on time played instead of earned XP from actions, Epic intends to improve the fairness for both competitive and non-competitive players in leveling their progression. This would mean that players can look to earn progression steadily and receive seasonal rewards regardless of their skill level and without stressing the need to perform well.

This change would also promote players to interact with and experience other game modes, which could help raise activity levels across the Fortnite ecosystem. Whether it’s dropping into the intense action of Blitz matches or exploring the experiences of players in Creative, every minute spent playing the game now counts for even more than before.

Epic has verified that the XP buff only pertains to playtime XP rewards. They also confirmed they will only run through the end of Chapter 6, Season 4, on November 1. While eliminations and challenges will still account for XP as they previously did.

In short, this update is positive news for those who would like to earn XP without the added strain of needing to maintain streaks to earn. If Fortnite would like to spotlight time invested versus the XP earner from actions taken during gameplay, then they have certainly continued to evolve their reward system appropriately and ensure competitiveness to keep players engaged.
