Former Dota 2 Player 444 Passes Away Due to Coviv 19

Anderson “444 Santos has passed away, with the former Dota 2 professional having died as a result of Covid-19. The news was broken by his former team, paIN Gaming. The entire Dota community has been mourning the loss of Santos, with the Brazilian having competed in leading events such as the EPICENTER Major 2019 and DreamLeague Season 13.

Aged just 25 when he died, Santos was best-known for his time with paIN, who excited the scene in April last year. Speaking on its official Twitter page, paIN, stated that: “Today we lost Bob to COVID-19. We’re eternally grateful for your help in building another chapter of our story on Dota. You’re an incredible person and we’ll miss you immeasurably. We can’t believe you were ripped from us so prematurely. Lucky are those who had a chance to know you and who had the honor of seeing you play. Our hearts and thoughts are with your family. Rest in peace, 444.”

How the Dota Community Helped Santos

Known as 444, Santos originally tested positive for Covid-19 in January, along with three members of his family. Having been forced to try and recover between his home and hospital, due to a lack of ICU beds in his state. Santos’ sister told one publication that 444 had been showing symptoms of pneumonia and that his lungs were operating at around 25% capacity.

Some $1,200 was donated by the Brazilian Dota 2 community in order to help the Santos family in paying for care, however 444 was ultimately declared dead on Saturday, despite having shown signs of improvement.

Why the News Has Impacted the Brazilian Esports Scene in Particular

Speaking on the devastating news, Santos’ former paIN teammate Rodrigo “Lelis” Santos stated that: “Today sadly I woke up to heartbreaking news. Covid-19 took another soul and this time, it was from our beloved player 444. An extremely humble and charismatic person. Rest in peace Bob.”

444 had long been a key part of the Brazilian Dota community, even after his departure from paIN, demonstrating just what kind of character he was.
