With the Esports World Cup no longer taking center stage, the attention of most CoD fans has shifted towards the upcoming Call of Duty League season, with organizations reshuffling their teams after lackluster performances in recent seasons.

With the Call of Duty League season date yet to be announced by Activision, there has been a lot of activity within the CoD space in regards to team rosters and participating teams. As of recently, the Call of Duty League featured 12 teams, namely:

  • Atlanta FaZe
  • Boston Breach
  • Miami Heretics
  • Charlotte Royal Ravens
  • LA Guerrillas
  • LA Thieves
  • Minnesota Røkkr
  • Cloud 9
  • OpTic Texas
  • Vancouver Surge
  • Toronto Ultra
  • Vegas Legion (Recently Left)

Just within the past few days, there’s been a ton of news circulating about teams in the league being replaced, with others dropping out of the league for various reasons. One such case is that of Vegas Legion, who recently confirmed that the team will not participate in CDL 2025 and the organization as a whole would be dissolved.

Although being one of the first teams to participate in the CDL during its first season, a string of less than satisfactory performances and a lack of notoriety in the space led to the team being officially disbanded. The team members and staff bid their farewells to fans through social media, with most of the roster shifting to free agency leading up to the 2025 season.

Fnatic & Gen.G’s Potential Return to Competitive CoD

Recent speculations and rumors circulating the CDL have hinted at two major organizations returning to competitive CoD, namely Fnatic and Gen.G. The rumors mainly stemming from a notable CoD leaker, @theGhostOfHope on X (formerly Twitter). The two teams are rumored to be replacing the Carolina Royal Ravens and Los Angeles Guerillas who are supposedly set to drop out of the 2025 season. The Boston Breach’s slot was initially in question, but recent rumors have suggested that despite their financial shortcomings and poor performances in recent seasons, they would still be returning for the 2025 season.

The news began picking up steam after the recent withdrawal of the Vegas Legion, who are to be replaced by Team Falcon in the CDL team lineup. This recent development has led to further speculations regarding the team lineup for CDL 2025 and the possibility of Fnatic and Gen.G making an appearance.

Other notable esports brands have also shown increasing interest in partnering with the CoD league, with Cloud9 taking the spot of New York Subliners recently. Team Liquid and Spacestation Gaming are also rumored to be showing interest in joining the Call of Duty League, so it would be interesting to know which teams would be getting replaced in the leadup to the new season, but as it stands, nothing is concrete, and only time will tell.
