FISSURE Playground 3 has reached its decisive weekend in Suzhou, China, with Legacy, MIBR, BETBOOM and G2 left in contention for the Counter-Strike 2 title.
The $1 million event began on September 8 with 16 teams but quickly produced several unexpected results. FaZe and The MongolZ were eliminated during the group stage, while FURIA and Alliance fell in the quarterfinals.
Legacy and BETBOOM earned direct semifinal places by winning their respective groups, while MIBR and G2 survived the quarterfinal round.
Legacy emerge from Group A without a playoff detour
Legacy produced one of the strongest group-stage runs of the tournament.
The Brazilian organization opened with a 2-1 victory over magic before defeating Alliance 2-0 in the upper semifinal. That win immediately secured a playoff position.
Legacy then faced FURIA in the upper final and completed another clean sweep, taking Mirage 13-7 and Ancient 13-9.
- Legacy defeated magic 2-1 in their opening series
- Alliance fell 0-2 in the upper semifinal
- FURIA lost 0-2 in the upper final
- Legacy advanced directly into the semifinals
That run allowed Legacy to skip the quarterfinals entirely and arrive at the final weekend with fewer elimination matches played than several of their rivals.
BETBOOM dominate the other group
BETBOOM followed a similarly efficient route through Group B.
They started with a 2-0 victory over BIG before overcoming Astralis in another straight-map series. Ancient required overtime, but BETBOOM survived 16-14 before closing Anubis 13-8.
The upper final against MIBR provided their biggest test.
BETBOOM won Mirage 13-9 and then needed overtime to take Anubis 16-14.
BETBOOM reached the semifinals without losing a series and have already beaten the same MIBR roster that remained alive through the quarterfinals.
| Team | Route to semifinals |
|---|---|
| Legacy | Group A winner |
| MIBR | Quarterfinal win over Alliance |
| BETBOOM | Group B winner |
| G2 | Quarterfinal win over FURIA |
That previous result gives BETBOOM additional confidence as the tournament moves into its final stages.
G2 recover after opening Astralis defeat
G2 took a considerably more difficult route.
Their tournament began with a 1-2 loss against Astralis, immediately pushing them into the lower bracket. From there, every series carried elimination pressure.
G2 responded by defeating BIG 2-1 and then surviving another three-map series against 9z.
They finally secured their playoff place with a convincing 2-0 victory over 5star.
The quarterfinal against FURIA presented the most difficult challenge yet.
Ancient required overtime before G2 edged the map 16-14. Dust2 was far less competitive, with G2 dominating 13-3 to complete the sweep and eliminate one of the pre-tournament favorites.
- G2 lost their opening match to Astralis
- They then won three consecutive lower-bracket series
- FURIA were eliminated 2-0 in the quarterfinal
- G2 now face BETBOOM for a place in the Grand Final
The turnaround has transformed G2 from an early elimination candidate into a realistic title contender.
MIBR make statement against Alliance
MIBR also had to play through the quarterfinals after losing the Group B upper final to BETBOOM.
Their response against Alliance was decisive.
MIBR won Inferno 13-4 before closing Cache 13-9 to take the series 2-0. nqz was particularly effective, finishing the match with 35 kills and a 1.48 rating.
The victory set up an all-South American semifinal against Legacy.
That matchup carries additional intrigue because both teams reached the final four through very different paths.
Legacy have been one of the most consistent teams at the event, while MIBR have already shown they can recover immediately after a difficult loss.
Several major names already eliminated
The tournament’s earlier stages produced significant surprises.
FaZe were knocked out after losses to Alliance and magic, while The MongolZ exited following defeats against MIBR and 5star.
Astralis also failed to reach the playoffs despite opening their campaign by beating G2.
FURIA, one of the highest-ranked teams in the field, survived the group stage but could not progress past the quarterfinals.
Those results have opened the bracket for teams that entered Suzhou without being considered the clearest favorites.
Assessment
FISSURE Playground 3 has developed into one of the more unpredictable CS2 events of September.
Legacy and BETBOOM earned the most direct routes to the semifinals, while MIBR and G2 had to survive additional pressure to remain in contention.
G2’s recovery is particularly notable. Losing the opening series could easily have ended their run, but four consecutive victories have put them one match away from the final.
Legacy, meanwhile, have quietly produced one of the cleanest tournament performances so far.
With only four teams remaining, the title race is now wide open. The semifinals will determine whether the group-stage leaders convert their strong starts or whether G2 and MIBR complete deeper lower-bracket recoveries.
