Clinton “Fear” Loomis has announced that he will be taking an indefinite break from competitive Dota 2 gaming, confirming rumours that had surfaced following business associates playing under the alias of Team Zero, without the veteran American. The former ba Captain and 2015 The International winner has not revealed just how much time he will stay away for, however it could be that fans have to wait until the start of the 2021 Dota Pro Circuit to see the former Evil Geniuses favourite in action once more.

Announcing the news via Twitter, Fear stated that: “I’m getting messages asking why I’m not playing today. “I decided to take a break from competitive for a little since DPC isn’t starting until Jan-Feb of 2021. The team wanted to keep playing regardless (3/5 of the roster) so they made a new team. Best of luck to the guys.”

Why Fear Chose to Take a Break from Dota 2

The North American Dota scene has been surpassed by events from Europe and Asia due to the demise of the Dota 2 Pro Circuit, which perhaps partly explains Fear’s decision to take an extended break. Developers Valve announced to the community that the DPC would most likely return in the early part of next year, which would see some players take the remainder of 2020 off.

The OMEGA League, ESL One Los Angeles and Beyond the Summit Pro Series are among the North American Dota 2 events to have taken place online of late, with Fear and business associates winning the OMEGA League: Americas Ancient Division, in what was their only success.

What Does the Future Hold for business associates?

Three of the former business associates players will continue to compete together under a new name, with it remaining to be seen as to whether the return of Fear for the DPC will see them reunite once again. Fear’s departure is the latest in a long line of changes for ba, with Leon “Nine” Kirilin having taken a break back in April, while Joel “MoOz” Mori Ozambela also departed to pursue his coaching career. Jacky “EternalEnvy” Mao and Jingun “Sneyking” Wu have been acting as stand-ins for a number of events as a result. It is likely that either Braxton “Brax” Paulson or David “Moo” Hull will join the duo in forming a new team.
