FaZe Clan are currently regarded as the number one team in CS:GO. Since February this year, they have won four trophies at S-tier events and three of those events were organized by ESL.

This puts them just one trophy away from winning the Intel Grand Slam and the prize that comes with it: $1 million. That prize is the equivalent of winning two CS:GO Majors because the reward for a Major title is $500.000.

How the Intel Grand Slam works

The Intel Grand Slam is awarded to one team per IGS season, but only if that team manages to win four of the 10 ESL events. Right now, the best CS:GO teams in the world are competing for the prize in Intel Grand Slam Season 4, which began with IEM XVI Winter and will end with ESL Pro League Season 17.

This makes the ongoing tournament, ESL Pro League Season 16, the sixth event in the series. And FaZe Clan have won three of the five events that were played so far: IEM Katowice, EPL Season 15, and IEM Cologne. These victories were accompanied by the trophy they won at PGL Major Antwerp, where they cemented their reputation as the new number one team in CS:GO.

Who else won the Intel Grand Slam

The previous seasons of Intel Grand Slam were won by Astralis, Team Liquid, and Natus Vincere. All of these teams had their era of dominance in CS:GO. In some cases it lasted years, in others less than a season.

Right now, FaZe Clan are the strongest team, thanks in part to the roster issues faced by the other top competitors.

FaZe Clan’s chances at ESL Pro League Season 16

FaZe Clan are very well positioned to win ESL Pro League Season 16. Their performance in the group stage of the tournament suggests that they’re still a very strong team. Despite losing one of the five matches against G2 Esports, FaZe are likely to dodge this team and have an easier Grand Final, assuming that they reach that point.

The big advantage of FaZe in the playoffs of this tournament is that they have an entire side of the bracket all for themselves. The three strongest teams in the world other than them have all been placed in the bottom half of the playoffs bracket, so they cannot challenge Finn “karrigan” Andersen’s team until the Grand Final.

If FaZe play their cards right, they should easily reach the last match of the tournament and their opponent will be Natus Vincere, G2 Esports, or Team Vitality. And they know how to defeat all three of them.
