FATA, 33 and Their Newest Team, mudgolems

If you’ve been following the professional Dota 2 scene for at least one year, you may recognize these two names. At the end of March this year, FATA and 33 left Alliance and went inactive until now. In this article, I will take a brief look at their careers prior to mudgolems and then present my assessment of their newest team.

FATA

FATA is an absolute legend at this point, having played for mousesports, Cloud9, Team Liquid, Team Secret, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and Alliance, among other teams. Apart from winning several important events and a few Majors, this player finished 5th – 6th at The International 2018.

During his time with Alliance, he had multiple events in which he finished in the top 4. He also won one of them: DreamLeague Season 12. What’s even more impressive is that Alliance finished 7th – 8th at MDL Chengdu Major and 4th at the second Major of the season, DreamLeague Season 13.

Immediately after the 2nd Major, it became obvious for everyone that the ongoing global crisis was going to get a lot worse and the rest of the Dota Pro Circuit was canceled. FATA decided to take a break because of this and perhaps take care of his personal life for a while. It wasn’t clear at the time how long he would stay out of the game, but now, more than 5 months later, we realize that it took him a while to come back.

33

33 is an Israeli player who was first discovered as a great talent by ppd. Sure, he had been playing for a while for small Dota 2 teams from Europe and CIS, but ppd was the first person who gave him the chance to shine. And he certainly did. As OpTic Gaming’s carry, 33 led his team to spectacular performances: 1st place at StarLadder ImbaTV Invitational Season 5, 2nd place at ESL One Birmingham 2018, 5th – 6th place at China Dota2 Supermajor, and 7th – 8th place at The International 2018.

Then came his NiP season, also alongside ppd. The results weren’t poor: 5th – 6th at MDL Disneyland Paris Major, 1st place at OGA Dota PIT Minor 2019, and 1st place at StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 2. These were the highlights. The big problem came at The International 2019, which was a complete disaster for NiP: 17th – 18th place.

33 then joined Alliance and was a key part of that team for a brief period of time. He joined together with FATA and he left when he did.

Mudgolems

Apart from these two legends, mudgolems has 3 other players: Skiter, BoraNija, and MiLAN. They’re all known players, but none of them is a tier 1 competitor. The skill difference between FATA and them is enormous. And that’s why I don’t think this team can succeed at the highest level. But thanks to FATA and 33, they will probably create some problems for the other big teams.
