Falcons survive Lynn Vision scare as zonic praises comeback mentality

Falcons avoided an early upset at BLAST Open Porto 2026 after recovering from a difficult position to beat Lynn Vision 2-1 in their Group B opener.

The series looked comfortable at first when Falcons dominated Inferno 13-4. Lynn Vision responded with a 13-10 victory on Ancient and then built a 9-2 lead on the deciding Dust2. Falcons nevertheless produced a remarkable comeback, winning the final ten rounds without reply to close the map 13-9.

After the match, coach Danny “zonic” Sørensen highlighted the mental response as one of the most encouraging aspects of the victory.

Falcons start strongly on Inferno

Falcons opened the series in convincing fashion on Lynn Vision’s pick of Inferno.

Their defensive side immediately created separation, producing a 9-3 halftime advantage before allowing Lynn Vision just one additional round after the switch.

The 13-4 scoreline suggested Falcons were heading toward a relatively straightforward opening victory.

Falcons selected Ancient but struggled badly during the opening half.

Lynn Vision controlled the CT side and reached halftime with a commanding 10-2 lead. Falcons finally found more success after changing sides and won eight rounds during the second half, but the comeback came too late.

Lynn Vision closed the map 13-10 and forced Dust2.

The momentum then carried directly into the decider. The Chinese lineup again established control, reaching a 9-3 halftime advantage after at one point leading Falcons 9-2.

Falcons were suddenly only four rounds away from an opening-match defeat against a team ranked considerably below them.

Ten unanswered rounds complete the comeback

Once Falcons moved onto the CT side of Dust2, Lynn Vision were unable to win another round.

Falcons collected ten consecutive rounds to turn a 3-9 halftime deficit into a 13-9 victory. The turnaround gave them the series 2-1 and kept their upper-bracket route alive.

zonic was particularly pleased with how the players handled the situation mentally.

Falcons have previously struggled when matches against lower-ranked opponents become complicated. According to the coach, frustration can sometimes appear more quickly in these situations than it does against elite opposition.

zonic acknowledged that this remains an area where the team must improve, but described the successful comeback as a positive sign.

m0NESY and TeSeS carry the firepower

The individual statistics underline how important m0NESY and TeSeS were to Falcons’ recovery.

m0NESY finished the series with 58 kills and only 30 deaths while posting a 1.64 HLTV Rating 3.0. TeSeS followed closely with 52 kills, 33 deaths and a 1.49 rating.

kyousuke ended almost level at 46-47, while the rest of the lineup had a quieter series.

The combination of m0NESY’s impact and TeSeS’ consistency gave Falcons enough firepower to survive periods where their overall structure was not functioning as intended.

The result is particularly valuable given the team’s recent form.

Falcons still searching for stability after Cologne

Falcons entered the second half of 2026 with significant momentum after winning the IEM Cologne Major.

That success has not fully carried into the following events.

They later lost to 100 Thieves during BLAST Bounty Season 2 before being eliminated by Legacy in the Esports World Cup quarterfinals. The Lynn Vision series therefore arrived at a moment when Falcons were looking for a cleaner response.

Instead, they came dangerously close to another disappointing result.

zonic stressed that the team still becomes too frustrated in certain matches, particularly when facing opponents they are expected to beat comfortably.

The ability to recover on Dust2 prevented that problem from turning into another early tournament setback.

Legacy await in the upper bracket

The win sends Falcons into the Group B upper-bracket semifinal against Legacy.

That matchup carries additional significance because Legacy recently eliminated Falcons 2-0 at the Esports World Cup.

A victory would therefore provide Falcons with both a degree of revenge and direct qualification to the BLAST Open Porto playoffs.

The loser will remain alive but will be forced into the lower bracket.

Assessment

Falcons’ victory over Lynn Vision was far less convincing than the final result alone suggests.

Inferno showed the level the roster can produce when everything functions properly, but Ancient and the opening half of Dust2 exposed familiar issues. Falcons allowed frustration and early disadvantages to disrupt their game against an opponent they were expected to beat.

The positive element is the response.

Winning ten consecutive rounds under elimination pressure demonstrates resilience, particularly after falling 2-9 behind on the deciding map. zonic is therefore justified in viewing the comeback as encouraging from a mentality perspective.

The upcoming rematch against Legacy will provide a much stronger test. Falcons survived their opening scare, but they will need a more consistent performance if they want to secure a direct place in the Porto playoffs.
