German team BIG beat Outsiders in the 2nd round of the EU RMR and caused a huge upset. BIG won 16-8 to secure a spot on the qualifying roster for the PGL Major. The Major will be held this year from May 14- 22 and features a $1,000,000 prize pool.

The second round of the A Group at the European Regional Major Ranking is complete. BIG made headlines when they defeated Outsiders (aka Virtus.pro, who had to rename themselves due to sanctions against Russian teams) to secure a spot among the biggest favorites to qualify for the PGL Major in the 2-0 pool.

Krimbo helps BIG to victory

Karim “Krimbo” Moussa saved his team BIG a few times with uncanny good 2on1 clutches. Thereby he showed his great talent although he couldn’t gain much experience against T1 teams so far. The Outsiders were in trouble from the beginning, after an intermediate score of 7:0 they went into halftime 11:4 behind and couldn’t recover from that. The match ended with a score of 16:8 and provided a lot of suspense, because hardly anyone expected that BIG could prevail against the Outsiders.

Eternal Fire’s bomb bug

A curious incident occurred in the match between Eternal Fire and Dignitas. In it, the match went into overtime after Dignitas made a strong comeback and then the bomb disappeared. Now you’re asking yourselves, “What do you mean the bomb disappeared? How can that happen?”

It’s an extremely rare bug where the bomb doesn’t spawn at the beginning of the round. However, this only became apparent during the round! After much chaos and back and forth, PGL decided to have the round replayed even though damage had already been dealt. Under normal circumstances, when damage is inflicted, rounds are not restarted. This case was an exception and Eternal Fire won the round even though they lost the original round.

Game plan for day 2

Meanwhile, forZe, MOUZ and SAW picked up important wins at the end of Day 1 to finish 1-1. While things went like clockwork for Christopher “dexter” Nong and MOUZ and Portuguese team SAW, forZe had to toil for their win against GamerLegion in a 30-round game on Mirage.

Headlining Day 2 are undoubtedly the matches in the 2-0 pool, where Heroic takes on Natus Vincere at 1:30 p.m. and FaZe faces BIG at 5:15 p.m. in best-of-three series that will decide two Legends spots at the Antwerp PGL Major. In the 1-1 pool, Outsiders vs. MOUZ is by far the closest matchup, which will be played at 12:15 p.m. Four teams will fight for their lives in the 0-2 pool towards the end of the day, with QUAZAR taking on Unique and Dignitas facing GamerLegion.
