The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has announced the formation of its ‘esports title selection task force’ for the 2026 edition of the Asian Games. This task force is tasked with selecting the esports titles that will be featured at the 20th Asian Games in 2026.
Who comprises this task force?
The task force includes three prominent figures in the gaming and esports industry: Dino Ying, Chairman and Co-founder of VSPO, one of Asia’s largest esports production companies. Hideki Okamura, Representative from Sega, and Carlos Tang Jiahe: Renowned esports expert.
The primary responsibility of this task force is to identify and select the esports titles for the upcoming games, with the selection process yet to be revealed.
The 19th Asian Games featured a diverse lineup of esports titles, including Arena of Valor, Dota 2, EA Sports FC, League of Legends, Street Fighter V, PUBG Mobile, and Dream of the Three Kingdoms 2
All these titles were official medal sports, and this trend is set to continue for the 2026 edition.
Support from the Asian Electronic Sports Federation
The 20th edition of the Asian Games will again receive support from the Asian Electronic Sports Federation, the region’s governing body for esports.
Dino Ying, one of the key members of the task force, is well-known for his role as the Co-Founder of VSPO. His company has collaborated with the International Olympic Committee on the Olympic Esports Week in Singapore in 2023 and recently formed a partnership with the Esports World Cup Foundation to support the Esports World Cup.
The 20th Asian Games are scheduled to take place in Nagoya and the Aichi Prefecture in Japan during September and October 2026.
In addition to the Asian Games, the International Olympic Committee is making significant strides in expanding its esports initiatives. The inaugural Olympic Esports Games will be held in Saudi Arabia in 2025.
