Why are they announcing these dates early? Valve’s recently implemented this tournament regulation where the organizers should announce their events ahead. Under the new rulebook, the 2026 events should be out by January 1, 2025. Meanwhile, the events planned for 2027 also require a two-year advance notice.

Now, this announcement from ESL serves as their compliance with this new policy to ensure the tournaments push through. With this new system, teams can better prepare their schedules ahead of the competitions.

Teams can now strategize better for their upcoming tournaments, especially for 2026. This new rule allows organizations to consider player schedules and intensity of competitions in planning. There will be longer tournaments and shorter week-long events as shared in the calendar.

So for longer tournaments, it’ll usually be for hosting major competitions. On the other hand, the shorter week-long events are to focus on specialized format tournaments. With this approach, it’ll help players avoid getting burnt out from too much competitive play.
