After almost two months of online competition, the ESL Challenger S43 has reached its end, and now we know which teams won the champion trophy in each region.

ESL Challenger League S43

The 43rd season of the ESL Challenger League took place online from October 25 to December 19. Twenty-four teams competed for a prize pool of $50,000.

While the first-place prize was only $20,000, what motivated all the participating teams from all regions was the only spot for the next ESL Pro League Conference Season 17.

Remember that teams competing in the Challenger division to participate in the ESL Pro League Season 17; must go through certain qualifying rounds before they can do so.

Some teams are called “Permanent Partner Teams,” which gives them the right to participate without the need to play in qualifying tournaments or because of their place in the world rankings.

These teams are:

  • Astralis
  • BIG
  • Complexity Gaming
  • ENCE
  • Evil Geniuses
  • FaZe Clan
  • Fnatic
  • FURIA Esports
  • G2 Esports
  • Heroic
  • MOUZ
  • NaVi
  • NiP
  • Team Liquid
  • Team Vitality

As we can see, 15 teams are already directly signed up for the ESL Pro League 17, so, from the rest of the qualifiers, we will have the remaining nine teams for this league, which will take place from February 21 to April 2 in Malta, to begin.

ESL Challenger League S43 – Results

Europe

In the Europe region, there were some great and some abysmal performances, but what was not lacking was excitement at all times.

The European Challenger League has well-known teams such as Team Spirit, Sprout, forZe, Movistar Riders, and Bad New Eagles, among others.

But, the big surprise was the Portuguese team SAW, which was crowned the spectacular year 2022 after taking first place in each of the Tier-B tournaments they played.

The Portuguese had an exceptional performance in this ESL Challenger League, leaving teams such as forZe, BLUEJAYS, and Spirit on their way to the Upper Bracket. However, to finally beat Team Spirit in the grand final, again, with a very good 3-1.

With this victory, SAW secured its place in the next EPL Conference S17 to try to continue on the path of achievement and dream of the ESL Pro League S17.

North America

We jumped the pond to head to the NA region of the ESL Challenger League S43.

While most of the well-known North American teams play at the highest competitive level, we can highlight some, like MIBR, LOS + oNe, and Evil Geniuses Black, which were the ones that dominated the scene during these almost two months of competition.

The Brazilians of MIBR won first place in the tournament, taking home $20,000 in cash prizes and the coveted spot for the EPL Conference S17.

Despite having a rough Group Stage, in which they finished with a 4-3 record, in the playoffs, they woke up and only lost the Upper Bracket final to Evil Geniuses Black.

In the Lower Bracket final, they got rid of LOS + oNe and defeated Evil Geniuses Black 3-1 in the ESL Challenger League S43 NA Grand Final.

Asia-Pacific

The Asia-Pacific region had an excellent tournament that concluded with an epic grand final that went to the fifth game.

After a spectacular performance on the group stage, Rare Athom failed to advance past the Upper Bracket semifinals.

They lost against Lynn Vision and were sent to the quarterfinals of the lower bracket. And finally, they also failed against IHC Esports.

Lynn Vision, meanwhile, had an excellent tournament in which they lost only one game en route to glory.

The ESL Challenger League S43 Asia-Pacific grand final was played between Lynn Vision and IHC Esports. This team arrived very emboldened after having played the IEM Rio Major 2022. However, the Chinese team beat the Mongolian squad and took first place.

We are pleased about this victory, as CS:GO has been reborn in China after several seasons in the shadows.
