Following a quiet period in the Dota 2 scene, mainly due to the postponement of The International due to the Covid-19 pandemic, EPIC Sports Events have announced a new top-tier tournament, that will come with a $500,000 prize pool. This will come as welcome news for Dota fans, who have been limited to online tournaments of late.

The new event will be known as the EPIC League, with eight teams having already been invited, with more to follow through qualifying rounds. EPIC Events created the Omega League, which peaked at some 400,000 viewers, making it only the second DPC second tournament to do so.

What Can We Expect from the EPIC League?

Speculation has already started regarding just what the EPIC League will bring with it, especially given the success of the Omega League, which delivered an ancient Rome theme that was widely lauded. Open qualifiers for the EPIC League will get underway on October 29, with those making it through then competing in closed qualifiers ahead of the main event. Team Secret, Alliance, Team Liquid, Virtus Pro, Natus Vincere, OG, Team Nigma and Vikin.gg are the teams who are confirmed to date.

EPIC have yet to announce which Virtus Pro team will be involved, with the organization’s so called “second team”, Virtus Pro Prodigy having been performing very well of late, while their main squad was made inactive back in September. The Virtus Pro main roster is inactive following a variety of leaks from the CIS Dota 2 scene. It had been suggested that Roman “RAMZES666” Kushnarev was in line to return to the team in order to replace Igor “iLTW” Filatov. However, with the Russian having joined a new stack in the form of Live to Win, Virtus Pro could well enter the EPIC League with its new roster.

Which Dates to Put in Your Diary Surrounding the EPIC League

The EPIC League is set to attract major interest from both organizations and fans, with the tournament set to conclude on December 13, with matches taking place in the CIS and Europe. After the group stage of the main event, the playoffs will get underway on December 8.
