ENVY Signs Demon1 for VCT Americas 2026 After Benching Inspire

fragster Jennifer Davis 8. February 2026

Summary:

  • Demon1 has joined ENVY to replace inspire, just as the team prepares for an elimination match against Evil Geniuses.
  • Demon1 was the MVP of Evil Geniuses (EG) back at Champions 2023, but has struggled to find a roster this season before getting signed to ENVY.
  • ENVY has to defeat EG and then win four straight games after that to qualify for Masters Santiago.

ENVY made a surprising roster change by signing Maximilian “Demon1” Mazanov and moving Hunter “inspire” Schline to the bench. This happened just before an important match at the VCT Americas 2026 Kickoff on February 6. Even though the timing is unexpected, it shows ENVY is doing whatever it takes to keep their chances of qualifying for Masters Santiago alive. Here’s what we know so far about this big move.

From Cloud9 Substitute to ENVY Starter

Despite being the MVP at Champions 2023, Demon1 has struggled to find a steady team this season. He began 2026 without being signed to any roster, then briefly played as substitute for Francis “OXY” Hoang in Cloud9.  While only played two matches then, Demon1 performed incredibly well. He earned MVP awards after helping Cloud9 beat Leviatán — and even ENVY, the team he is now joining.

Now, Demon1 will go up against Evil Geniuses — the same team he won Champions with in 2023. It’s kind of ironic, and the match is also a big deal because ENVY’s loss would mean elimination.

Inspire Moves to Bench

A lot of VALORANT fans were surprised when inspire was benched. He was important in helping the team qualify for the VCT after winning Ascension 2025, so seeing him moved to the reserve roster was unexpected. Still, ENVY has been inconsistent this season, which dropped them into the lower bracket.

According to Mike Rufail, the team owner of ENVY, inspire wasn’t benched because he’s bad. He actually praised inspire’s skills and thanked him for helping the team get back to Tier 1.

A Tough Road to Santiago

Right now, it’s do-or-die for ENVY and Demon1. They recently lost to MIBR and Cloud9, and another loss against EG will eliminate them from the tournament. To make it to Masters Santiago, they now have to win five matches in a row. That’s very hard to do, which explains why they decided to take a big risk by changing their roster.

Demon1 only gets one day to practice with his ENVY before facing Evil Geniuses. Even so, he looks to be in good shape. Additionally, ENVY has previously defeated EG in the opening matches, which sparks a bit of hope for another victory.

The New ENVY Roster

ENVY’s team that won Ascension last October isn’t the same one playing in VCT Americas because some of their original players were too young for Tier 1. To replace them, they added Daniel “Rossy” Abedrabbo from Leviatán and Angelo “keznit” Mori from KRÜ. The current ENVY roster is Rossy, keznit, Evan “Eggsterr” Grady, Matteo “P0PPIN” Weber, and the newest player, Demon1. Dakota “Stunner” MacLeod is the head coach, and Álvaro “WKN” Bustos is the assistant coach.

What’s Next for Demon1 and inspire?

Demon1 is getting another chance to show his skills after almost retiring last December. He’s proven he’s very talented, and doing well with ENVY could give him some stability. Inspire’s situation is less certain since he’s searching for a new team in the middle of the season. Still, he says he’s staying motivated, plans to stream every day, and will keep working for another opportunity in the pro scene with a new team.

Conclusion

This upcoming match versus Evil Geniuses will decide if the team stays in the season or gets eliminated. With Demon1, a proven champion who’s been playing well lately, ENVY hopes this change will start the five-game winning streak they need.

VALORANT fans are watching closely to see if ENVY’s decision to bring in Demon1 works or if losing inspire will hurt their chances in Santiago. What do you think about this roster change?
