Echo Guild has won the World of Warcraft Race to World First for the third consecutive time after defeating Raszageth and completing Mythic Vault of the Incarnates.

Echo Esports, the best WoW team in Europe, won the tight race against Team Liquid to become the first guild to successfully clear the Vault of the Incarnates and win the first Road To World First competition of the Dragonflight expansion. Team Liquid and Echo had been competing for nine days to be the first to complete the raid, but they were unable to overcome Raszageth’s impassable wall.

After a brief period of gearing up, Team Liquid immediately went to Boss fights, winning bouts against each successive boss to make a way to Raszageth. Echo, on the other hand, geared up and grinded for a whole two days before getting into a boss fight.

However, as the raiding began, Echo slowly reached the first significant wall of the raid, taking out Terros before settling into a comfortable second place, just a few hours behind Liquid. In the second leg of the race, Echo appeared to have better gear as they kept dispatching bosses to chase Liquid in the race. Echo overcame Raszageth with just 265 pulls and won the championship for the third time in a row. The Vault of the Incarnates was finished in 10 days, less time than the Sepulcher of the First Ones, which took 19 days to finish.

The champions with twists, turns, and hotfixes

Since the developers significantly underestimated the endurance of Raszageth, it needed two sets of hotfixes by Blizzard Entertainment before killing him became technically possible. Every guild that encountered Raszageth struggled to push it above 60% due to its devilishly difficult mechanics. Finally, on December 21, Liquid and Echo pulled the boss below 20% for the first time, and it appeared that the race was about to come to a conclusion.

Just prior to Echo’s decisive push, which guaranteed their victory, another hotfix that nerfed Raszageth’s Enrage ability was released in the fight’s third phase, making the fight’s climax much easier. It appeared that Liquid wasn’t in front of their computers when the servers received the hotfix, which resulted in them losing their lead and possibly the race. Meanwhile, Echo, who was at the right place at the right time, finished off the Race to World First. Given the events that occurred just before Echo’s victory, a significant number of fans were disappointed.

While some claimed that Blizzard was purposely prolonging the race to make the raid appear tougher than it actually was, others felt that nerfing the raid as it was taking place altered the outcome of the race. Others believed that this nerf was implemented as a kind gesture from the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight creators, not to benefit any one guild in particular but rather to give them time to celebrate the holidays with their loved ones.
