Although managing to snag a bit of silverware for their trophy cabinet by winning the prestigious Emirates FA Cup against city rivals Manchester City, their campaign in England’s top-flight league was abysmal. Ten Hag’s Manchester United recorded their worst ever Premier League finish in history, coming in at number 8 in the Premier League standings.
Their season woes unfortunately weren’t exclusive to the Premier League, as Manchester United bowed out of the EFL Cup in the fourth round after a disappointing loss to Newcastle United. Their campaign in the Champions League was also embarrassingly short, as they wound up bottom of a group that had Bayern Munich, FC Copenhagen, and Galatasaray. It’s easy to see why their campaign in the Champions League was especially disappointing, as the two teams ahead of them should be easy pickings for a team of United’s caliber.
In a bid to remedy the burns of last season, United made a few marque signings to help patch the glaring holes in their squad. To tidy up their defense, they sought the services of Bayern Munich’s Matthijs De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. De Ligt is expected to pair with, arguably, their best defender, Lisandro Martinez, to strengthen their central defense, while Mazraoui will take charge of the right to fill the gap left by Aaron Wan Bissaka, who left for West Ham.
Another defensive asset taken from Lyon is Leny Yoro, a young defender with heaps of talent but still lacking in experience, especially at an institution as big as Manchester United. The final major signing for Manchester United was intended to supply some much-needed firepower at the front, with Joshua Zirkzee being the man appointed for the job. Although showing a spark in the opening game of the season by scoring a debut goal, he is still fairly young and is expected to grow into the role with time.
There is not much difference between Manchester United’s team last season and the one they have this season, which has left a lot of fans worried for a repeat of last season. Ten Hag is still at the reins and is confident that the team will perform this season and is determined to prove doubters wrong going forward.
EA FC 25 will be released on September 27, 2024, and will be available on all major platforms.
