One of South Korea’s most successful esports organizations, DWG KIA, has once again announced a rebranding ahead of the 2023 LCK season, complete with a new look and a new name for one of the biggest League of Legends teams.

There is no doubt that DWG KIA is an organization that has invested a great deal of money and, above all, effort, into titles such as League of Legends, VALORANT, and Rainbow Six Siege. Now, for the start of the LCK Spring Split, the team is renamed Dplus KIA.

What does Dplus KIA mean?

As we know, DWG KIA is a very successful organization that won the League of Legends World Championship in 2020 and the LCK three times.

In addition to the world title at Worlds 2020, DWG KIA has had spectacular performances in the 2021 and 2022 editions, making this organization one of the most formidable in the professional League of Legends scene.

Now, their name change to Dplus KIA is a nod to the iconic legacy the team has had. The “D” serves as a tribute to the organization’s original name, DAMWON Gaming, while the “plus” represents, according to the organization:

“Its unlimited connectivity and expansive potential for a bright future.”

About DWG KIA

Damwon Gaming, as the organization was previously called, dominated each of the 2020 domestic and international competitions with relative ease. Then, for the 2021 season, they partnered with KIA, abbreviating Damwon Gaming to DWG, and DWG KIA originated.

After first place in Worlds 2020 and second place in 2021, the DWG KIA guys had a tough road in the 2022 edition. They came very close to taking down Gen.G Esports in the quarterfinals but ended up falling with a close score of 2-3.

There is no doubt that, had DWG KIA not lost in the quarterfinals, Worlds 2022 would have had a different development.

Now, to regain dominance in the 2023 season, the team secured the signing of 2022 World Champion Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu.

New chapter for Dplus KIA

Undoubtedly, this rebranding represents a new chapter for this organization under the name Dplus KIA. However, it is also an opportunity to consolidate themselves as the true legends of LoL.

Dplus KIA Vice President and COO Joon Young Lee said:

“Dplus KIA is one of the most successful teams in the history of League of Legends, and it’s time for our brand to take its rightful place amongst the most popular organizations in the world.”

In addition to Deft, the team’s lineup for the LCK Spring Split 2023 is as follows:

  • Kim “Canna” Chang-dong
  • Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu
  • Heo “ShowMaker” Su
  • Kim “Kellin” Hyeong-Gyu
