Dr Disrespect and Twitch settle legal dispute

Dr Disrespect has announced that his legal battle with Twitch is finally over. Two years have already passed since his ominous perma-ban. The reasons for the streamer’s ban are still unknown.

Unexplained perma-ban from Twitch

Well-known streamer Guy “Dr Disrespect” Beahm was suddenly banned from Twitch in the summer of 2020 – without the platform revealing a reason. Since then, Twitch and the doc have been at loggerheads. At the time of the ban, he was one of the most popular and biggest streamers on the platform. No one knew why the streamer was banned – not even the Doc himself.

It was quiet for a while, but then he suddenly reappeared. This time, however, on Youtube Gaming, where he was able to quickly pick up where he left off. The ban is now almost 2 years ago and since then there was a lot of trouble between Twitch and Dr Disrespect.

Dr. Disrespect and Twitch settle legal dispute

But now the dispute seems to be settled. On Thursday, March 10, he stated via Twitter, “I have settled my lawsuit with Twitch. Neither party admits to any wrongdoing.” There was no further information on the lawsuit and the reasons for his ban remain unclear. Dr. Disrespect also stated a short time later that he will not be returning to Twitch and will still not be seen there. However, whether it is a ban from Twitch or his own decision was not clarified in the process. Here’s what the Doc had to say about it, “To answer all your questions, the Doc will not be returning to Twitch.”

Will the Doc be able to play with other streamers?

It’s unclear whether or not the Doc will be allowed to show his face on Twitch again. This is because banned streamers aren’t even allowed to show up on other people’s channels. Therefore, many other streamers can not play together with the Doc. How this looks now, after the legal dispute is settled, however, is not entirely clear. TimTheTatman was also confused as to what the new situation means now:

“I think that’s good news, right? It’s really vague, I don’t know,” Tim said during his stream. “I just don’t know – I’ll tell you what, man, nothing would make me happier if me, NICKMERCS and Dr. Disrespect could all play together. That would be awesome.”

Twitch is notorious for not commenting on why they ban certain streamers. This has already led to plenty of frustration among streamers and some even left the platform and switched to Youtube Gaming as a result. Many great ex-Twitch streamers have since moved to Youtube Gaming and are just as successful there as they were on Twitch before.

The end of the legal dispute doesn’t bring the desired answers to Dr Disrespect’s ban, but at least fans have hope again that the doc will soon be allowed to play together with other streamers again. Whether Twitch will allow this or not, we will find out for sure soon.
