DPC 2023 Tour 2 favorites in Western Europe

The recent Lima Major clearly demonstrated that Western Europe is much stronger than every other region at the moment. It had three teams in the top three at The International 2022 and two teams in the Grand Final of the first Dota Pro Circuit Major of the new season.

Gaiming Gladiators and Team Liquid will continue to be the favorites in the region, but the results of the Major cannot change the fact that Liquid are considerably stronger than Gladiators.

WEU favorites for Tour 2

It feels very strange to look at the list of teams that will take part in the upcoming DPC Tour and not see Team Secret. Unfortunately for them, they were relegated because of their poor results in Tour 1. Hopefully, Clement “Puppey” Ivanov and his legendary squad will be back in Division I at the end of Tour 2.

Meanwhile, we will watch OG, Tundra Esports, Liquid, and Gladiators fighting for the number one position in the region. Of course, Entity and Nigma Galaxy also have decent chances of being among the best, but it will be a real challenge for them to succeed with their current rosters in this environment.

In other regions, the best teams have very little to do to secure a spot at the Major. There are only two or three teams that are strong enough to compete for the available spots, so the margin of error is quite big.

But in Western Europe, the competition is fierce and 75% of the participants have a real chance of qualifying. Fortunately for everyone involved, Western Europe has four available spots for the Berlin Major, which means that two thirds of the important teams will get to compete in it.

People are still hopeful that either OG or Nigma will manage to play well enough to earn a spot at the tournament and delight them with their presence. But it will be hard. After parting ways with Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf, OG haven’t looked that great.

As for Nigma, they missed the last two editions of The International and faced numerous setbacks. Amer “Miracle-“ Al-Barkawi, who used to be one of the best Dota 2 players in the world, struggled with some health problems and was benched in December. Without him, the team is considerably weaker than before.

But maybe the training sessions of the last few months have led to an improvement. We will see just a few days from now. For WEU, Tour 2 starts on March 13.
