Team Elephant was created on October 1st 2020. This was an attempt made by a number of investors to bring together some of the best players in the Chinese region and win important trophies with them. Unfortunately, the project failed. The players were indeed exceptional and some of the best in the world and their respective roles, but the synergy between them was poor.

Elephant’s Results in DPC 2021

Dota Pro Circuit 2021 had 2 seasons, which nowadays are called tours. During the first DPC tour, Elephant was expected to finish in the top 2 or in a worst-case scenario, in the top 4. Such a result would have meant that the team was going to participate in the Major that followed the tour, because the region had received 4 tickets for it.

Unfortunately for Elephant fans, the team finished 5th and showed clear signs of weakness relative to the other regional rivals.

The second tour of the 2021 season went the same. Elephant wasn’t bad, but it was not good enough to finish in the top 4. Their 5th place was simply not good enough. And because of how the 2021 season was structured, there was little money to be made outside of DPC. This fact, combined with the high player salaries, led to an unsustainable business model. And the only thing that could have saved the team was a top 6 result at The International 10.

Elephant did manage to qualify for the tournament by winning the regional qualifiers. But the result was a modest one: 13th – 16th place out of 18 teams. The $600,000 received for this performance wasn’t bad, but it couldn’t cover the amount that had been spent up until that point. This caused Elephant’s management to pull the plug on the project and say goodbye to Dota 2 for now.

What’s Next for the Players

Eurus, Somnus, and fy are all formidable players who would bring a huge contribution to any team. And now that they’re free agents, everyone wants to see where they will go next. They may not have good synergy as a group, but individually, everyone is probably trying to sign them. In particular, Eurus used to be the best carry player in the world. He’s also a formidable midlaner with lots of accomplishments. So apart from PSG.LGD, who are probably happy with their current roster, every other Chinese team is probably making phone calls right now.
