The new Dota 2 gameplay update, expected to arrive soon, introduces a five-man party queue in ranked matches, as well as a “Surrender Button.” This button is known from many other games – and now it should also come to Dota 2.

Dota 2 connoisseur Wykrhm Reddy recently made a fuss in Dota 2 community with the latest gameplay update. In a post on Twitter, Wykrhm shared a screenshot of what are believed to be changelog notes for Dota’s next gameplay update, which is due to be released shortly. Changes to ranked mode include party composition and a surrender option, the “Surrender Button”.

Possibly shorter waiting times

The update includes a big change for ranked mode. According to Wykrhm’s post, Players with five stacks will now be able to compete against teams without five stacks in ranked matches. This means that teams will no longer have to wait as long to play, but will instead be able to compete against teams with two or three stacks, which should significantly reduce queue times.

Some players feel this change is urgently needed, but are also very concerned. It’s not clear from the notes whether or not five stacks can queue up with only solo players. Of course, that would create problems for players who aren’t as good at coordinating as a five-stack.

The Surrender button

The biggest change is probably the introduction of the surrender button. Other MOBAs like League of Legends or Smite have had this feature for a long time. However in Dota, there was no surrender button until now, except in pro matches where players type “gg” to end the game. Now it seems that this system will be used in regular ranked games as well as in pro games.

It’s not clear if this will apply to non-ranked games as well, or if non-full parties will also have the ability to abandon games. However, considering that you have to type “gg”, it’s likely that it won’t be allowed for less than full teams. This could be an interesting addition to ranked games.

The surrender feature allows players to quickly finish games that have gotten out of control, provided the game lasts more than 30 minutes. On the other hand, Dota can be a game where a mistake by the opposing team can mean victory for you. Adding the Surrender button could then be an incentive to end the game early with no chance to get back into the game. Soon, we will find out how well the new function is ultimately received.
