DOTA 2: Old G are the favorites to win WEU Division II

The actions of a new Dota 2 season are already underway, and the Western Europe (WEU) DPC Division 2 closed qualifier will be played from December 19-22. From what we know, there is no doubt that Old G are the heavy favorite to take the win.

Old G’s objectives for this tournament are to reach the grand final since a victory or even a second place would allow them to participate in the DPC Tour 1 2023.

In addition, a victory would indirectly allow them to qualify for The International 2023.

Why is Old G a favorite?

Many factors have made this Old G lineup a favorite to win WEU Division II and earn a berth in the DPC 2023 Tour 1.

Powerful Lineup

First of all, the team has three players on its roster who know what it is like to win The International, so the experience and skill of these players will be decisive in this tournament. They are:

  • Topson
  • Ceb
  • N0tail

In addition, the other two players in the Old G squad have also shown spectacular talent and won several important trophies.

  • No[o]ne-
  • MSS

Throughout their successful careers in the Dota 2 competitive scene, these players have been in the top eight at The International, which means they perform very well under pressure and in front of thousands of fans.

Format of the tournament

This lineup makes Old G unquestionably much stronger than the rest of the participating teams. As if that were not enough, the rules and format of the tournament favor the team since each match will be played in a best of three and are in a double elimination format.

If this lineup is very fearsome and powerful by itself, having two lives in the tournament and two lives in each match makes them practically impossible to beat since beating them in one game will not be enough.

And even if you manage to beat them twice in a match, you will have to beat them again in another game, with an unquestionably low probability of this happening.

Old G has dominated the scene for many years

Remember that these players mentioned were part of OG, a team considered one of the best in the world,  winning The International 2018 and 2019.

Beating this lineup in the Open Qualifiers was complicated. First, let’s remember when Unity Esports managed to win a game against OG; well, the match ended with a 1-2 in favor of OG.

If everyone expects Old G to qualify for WEU Division II, they will have to measure their strength against teams like Alliance, and Team Bald Reborn since the rest of the units are many lower-level opponents.

Teams that will compete in the closed qualifiers

  • Old G
  • Monaspa
  • Ooredoo Thunders
  • HAVU Gaming
  • Team Blink
  • KZ Team
  • Le Classique 2.0
  • NOSTRVM

Looking at each of the teams participating in this tournament, we can highlight that Monaspa is the only one that can stand up to Old G. SsaSpartan, a Major finalist, who leads this team, so it has experience and grit for this type of match.
