Discord has unveiled Orbs with a massive global rollout. It is the ultimate free perks system. Users earn perks merely by interacting with the platform; nobody has to pay. After having a seven-week beta trial, Discord opened the orbs globally and introduced this rather novel ad-based rewards system for the benefit of users, advertisers, and Discord’s monetising interests.
What Are Orbs & What Can We Get with Orbs?
Orbs are a new in-app currency, earned through Quests only. Such Quests are completely optional and based on user engagements, including watching short video advertisements, game trailers, or testing out new Discord features. Afterward, the Orbs can be spent on various perks under the “Orbs Exclusive” tab in the Discord Rewards Shop.

Rewards that are up for grabs include:
- Nitro credits, such as complimentary 3-day trial credits
- Avatar decorations
- Special badges for the profile, with visual effects.
All items are purely digital, non-transferable, and bound to your account. You cannot buy Orbs, gift them, or trade them; they are to be earned only through interaction inside the app. On the flip side, you can’t use them to pay for recurring Nitro plans, server boosts, gifts, or partner-branded products.
Why Orbs Are Important
Orbs marks are the beginning of Discord’s shift toward engagement-based monetization. Throughout the beta, Discord witnessed a 16× hike in first-time purchases in the Rewards Shop, and 79% of those taking part in the Orbs program had never before spent money on Discord. This positioning Orbs as a highly convertible instrument, especially for those users who have generally never been paying for Nitro or digital goods.
For a user, Orbs are a rare prize: freebies in return for an option to participate. For advertisers seeking truly measurable engagement under the Ads/Quest model, the clients are not expected to build into their own reward systems.
How It Works

Receiving your first Orbs:
- Discover Quests: Open Discord via desktop or web browser → click the Compass icon → go to the Quests section.
- Do a Task: Action to complete might be something like watching a video or joining a session.
- Proceed to Claim the Reward: When the task is complete, click the Claim Reward button and get the Orbs.
- Redeem your Orbs: Visit the Shop → select the Orbs Exclusive category → claim your favorite prize.
Currently, Orbs do not expire; Discord, however, has maintained that henceforth they may update the economy for balance and sustainability.
Future Prospects and Beyond
At this moment, Orbs only work from desktop and browser. Discord will soon have support for mobile apps and will add lots of options for redemption yet to be announced.
