In April 2021, Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz moved from Astralis to Ninjas in Pyjamas and the speculated transfer fee was somewhere around $700.000. Naturally, the expectations were high and NiP wanted to go from being a decent team to being one of the best.

Unfortunately, it didn’t happen. The pressure on dev1ce was enormous and this had a negative impact on his mental state. The problems mounted until eventually, the player decided to bench himself for an undisclosed period of time.

As we now know, dev1ce ended up staying out of the game for almost an entire year, leaving CS:GO fans to wonder if he’ll ever compete again.

Returning to Astralis

Dev1ce’s return to Astralis was well-received by fans, who didn’t feel betrayed by his NiP adventure. At the end of October 2022, he started competing again. The start was rough, as was expected. But after a few months of practice, Astralis have finally found their rhythm.

The Danish team entered the BLAST Premier: Spring Groups event with high hopes. And, despite the initial setbacks, they managed to qualify for BLAST Premier: Spring Final.

Throughout the tournament, dev1ce was in excellent shape and his impact was almost as great as his teammate’s, Benjamin “blameF” Bremer, who was ranked as the 12th best CS:GO player in 2022.

Even in defeat, Astralis looked strong. They started the tournament with a 0-2 result against Team Vitality but they were beaten with a lot of difficulties. The scores on the two maps were 16-12 and 19-15.

The next match played by Astralis was against Heroic. Once again, Astralis lost, but not without winning one map. On the second and third, they were heavily dominated by their Danish adversaries. But the team recovered in the next match and played a lot better.

To qualify for BLAST Premier: Spring, Astralis had to defeat Ninjas in Pyjamas and OG. The first match was particularly stressful for dev1ce, not only because his team lost the first map (16-11 on Overpass), but also because he had to compete against his former organization.

In the end, Astralis won thanks to him and blameF. Both of them had really good K-D scores: 73-54 and 60-48.

The match against OG was really difficult. Every single map was won or lost by the tiniest margin possible and in one case, overtime rounds were needed to decide the winner. The scores were 16-14 on Inferno, 14-16 on Vertigo, and 17-19 on Ancient. Once again, dev1ce was the second-best member of his team.
